2)do u have some kind of sport facilities on campus or near to theat henry price...like a court or a pool or...a fitness?
3)how do you clean your room-somebody does it for you...or?
4)if my contract is for 39 weeks...where will i leave my luggage...will it stay n my room,or what
i'lll wait for your answers now

:O She didn't do the guide, I did although she did contribute some very helpful stuff :p: but anyway I'll try ans answer your questions

1. There's a few shops that you can go to:

- Union Shop - About 3 minutes walk from Henry Price, sells all your basic food supplies, fruit, veg, milk, bread etc etc

- There's a little shop about 1 minute down the road - Sells all your regular foods as well as specialist Halal meat.

- Morrisons - About a 10 minute walk, it's a larger supermarket so selld more than just food.

2. There are sports facilities on campus, there's a gym on the other side of the university about 5-10 minutes away from Henry Price.

3. Lol I wish :p:. Unfortunately you will have to clean your own room (Or if you don't mind living in clutter then you may not clean it). The only thing that's done for you in terms of cleaning is that the bins are emptied every weekday for you. Also you will be having flat inspections every term (The last term inspects your bedroom and shower for cleanliness) If you fail two inspections the flat has to pay for cleaners to come in.

4. Not entirely sure of this, my contract is from 17th September 2007 - 14th June 2008. Are you saying that you will either be coming to Leeds earlier or staying later than these dates? I just had a look in the residence handbook and you can apply to stay in Henry Price through the Summer after your contract has ended. However I'm not sure of the details of this, it may be something you have to research when you arrive

Hope that answers some of your questions, message back if you need to know anything else.

sure it helps...thank you for yor time..you're one of the few that really condescends to answer he disoriented future freshers some qustions...
so the guide(which was obviously yours) was a lot of help..
i have some other questions,a lil bit awaay from the main topic-which is Henry price
1)if i'm not on campus, can i buy a bike from somebody..like a student who's not going to use it anymore, and are there people who go to the college with a bike?
2 ) how's the weather there...tell me something more..
3 ) i know you're self catered, but have you heard anything about the food on campus..is it healthy..is it delicious...or with a lot of fat..and uncertain origin
3 and a half ) concerning the upper one-do u think i should go fully or self catered
4 ) do you have an opinion about Devonshire

i must say it to you-u're quick ! :P

Don't worry about off topic questions, I don't mind answering any questions about Leeds Uni.. so here goes :p:

1) Someone around would probably be selling a bike, just check the local adverts in the local Leeds newspapers, you can probably pick up a normal bike for somewhere around £20. Also it's worth noting that there are "bike bars" on campus so you can lock your bike up through the day (There is also a bike pen in Henry Price, so it's pretty secure) ... And yes I have seen a lot of bikes around the site so obviously a lot of people do use bikes to get to University!!

2) Well the weather, it's not too bad. We have mild Winter's here (Sometimes we get the odd cold snap with some snow), this time of year tends to bring showers but the temperature isn't too bad. The Summer is normally warm (ranging anywhere from 15-30 degrees). We've had quite a few heatwaves the past few Summers due to getting the continental dry hot airflow where we get 30 degree+ weather.

3) The food on campus doesn't look too bad. There's a canteen called "the refectory" where you can buy meals, but personally I found them a little expensive. They offer various things (Salads, lasagne, fish dishes etc etc) The Union shop also sells sandwiches (And they have a good variety of them). There's also a new bakery type show that's opened, it sells cornish pasties sausage rolls and pies 'I think'. Overall the food is pretty good, there's no nasty stuff.... or I hope there's not .

3 (And a half) My personal view would be to go self-catered. I get the impression you 'take care' with what you eat, so going self catered will give you the flexibility to choose what you want as well having control and the knowledge of what you are eating. I've never been catered (So this view may be stereotypical) but it seems you have set times of the day where if you don't get to the canteen you will miss out on your meal... I prefer to cook when I'm hungry, rather than being told when..

4) I don't know enough about Devonshire to pass comment. I'm sure there's someone on the forum who knows a bit about it, make a new topic on ehre and you'll probably get a reply pretty quick

wow..how do you guys never get tired of answering all those boring questions freshers ask.. How do you even have time!

haha-about the bycicles..-where can i find the student newspaper  _it's not sold on stands around here   ..so i suppose a link will be useful :P

anndd-what did u say you were studying at leeds
Reply 66
Strangely enough I have more spare time than you may think, my second semester has barely had any essay work, just got exams coming up

The students newspaper is normally in the Union building however I'm not sure if they have a "classifieds" section where people buy and sell things through the newspaper. There almost certainly is somewhere that you can buy a bike second hand, I just don't know where exactly you should look. (The local Leeds Newspaper - The Yorkshire Post - probably has a section where people send in adverts to sell things.)

And the Student Newpaper website is down for maintenence at the moment but here's the link for future reference:

http://leedsstudent.lsrfm.com/

And I'm studying Human Resource Management, it's a kind of combination of Business Studies (Which is the main focus) and a bit of Employment Law, Psychology (In the workplace) and Sociology all mixed into one :p:

so,which year aare you now, mr. Wizard?
do you work there?
Reply 68
Just about to finish my first year  Few lectures left, and then 5 exams and I'm done for the year!:biggrin: What are you going to study?

And nope I don't work at either the Yorkshire Post or the Student Paper.
Reply 69
i am going to do communications...
do you know anybody who's doing that so that i can ask him any questions and can you tell me where my lectures will be

so if you din't work and only go to uni,you have time left :?
Reply 70
I'm pretty good managing my finances so I didn't really see the need to work, if I had, it would have just been for extra money, rather than needed money.

And as for the lectures, even those people who study your course this year wouldn't be able to tell you that (Firstly they probably haven't been finalsied yet). For example, I do a degree at the Business School, however, I have a lot of lectures that aren't even based in the business school. The Roger Stevens building has a lot of lecture theatres in it that are used by people with a variety of degrees. You may aslo find yourself having lectures in different school, this semester I have a lecture in "Statistics For Management" in the Environment Studies building.

e.g. I may be in lecture theatre 21a having a lecture on Industrial Studies, next door there could be a lecture on Maths.

Edit: I took a quick look at Communication Studies and none of the rooms have been allocated according to the timetable, it seems your lecturers have been put on the timetable though, but like I said, I doubt it's the official "last print" so things could change.
I think the wizard has answered the questions pretty well, but my input is Leeds is a wind tunnel...a very bad wind tunnel, to point i literally cant walk and need to hold something heavy not to be blown away sometimes...self catered because otherwise in your 2nd year wen you get a house you wont have a clue how to take care of yourself or the cost of weekly shop etc, and as for devonshire...i know some people there who are lovely people, but its mostly Rah's...peoples parents get really arsey about getting there kids in there.

And btw wizard sorry for the confusion...didnt wana take any credit away from you
Reply 72
Nah it's fine, you've contributed a lot to the topic so any praise for me is shared with you :p: (My god that sounds cheesey... haha)

I have to agree about the wind though, we've had a lot of windy days over winter (More than usual I would say) and as Henry Price is pretty much not sheltered (Park on one side, fields on the others) you do tend to get blown around quite a bit, even I've been moved along by the wind and I'm 6 foot 2 and 15 stone!!
Wizard you goin the social at Superna next thursday??
Reply 74
Pink_Diamond...what's rah's...
aaand -if it's only windy,it's ok, but if it's rainy,it's a problem

p.s.-Pink_Diamond - if you can tell me anything about the "bike transport", i'll be pleased

I don't think so, I'm at my girlfriends that night and she's got A LOT of dissertation work to do :p: So I don't think I can make it, is that the one with1000's £'s behind the bar? sounds mighty tempting
Its windy and rainy sometimes im afriad....rahs are stuck posh people, those people who spend hours trying to look like they havent spent hours getting ready...

And im afraid i know nothing about bikes...Henry Price has bike shed, and the uni has bike storage too but i dont know anyone who owns one and i walk everywhere.

Lol you dont want to watch her doing dissertation work...you would only be a distraction lol...and yea its the one with £000's behind the bar woop
