Hello there, I'm learning Persian at the moment and have a bit of the silly question but how do you pronounce 'golden' طلایی?

I'm self taught you see, and don't have a native speaker to ask the last two letters are confusing me somewhat since they are the 'same' letter, I'm guessing it's t(a)laiye (or t(a)laii.. or perhaps t(a)layi?) thanks!

I THINK its pronounced as 't(a)layi', the first 'ye' controls the pronunciation of the second one

aw thanks guys Hands down it really is one of the most lovely languages I've tried learning; just from the way it sounds, the script, grammar (and of course the literature on offer).... perfect!

I'm my gap year, but soon to be studying Sanskrit and Ancient Greek officially, with Avestan and New Persian (for sure ) and a few other languages on the side. I want to study Eastern religions 'when I grow up' so of course learning Farsi and as much of that branch of languages as I can won't be a waste, not to mention I love poetry, and Persian pieces are some of the loveliest I've come across (can't wait to read them without help of translations)

Military still has like 90% of the control. So we still have to wait to see how things develop.

Some people say that the 2009 Iran protests were "US coup attempts", can someone shed some light on this? (preferably without any bias ). Im not an expert when it comes to Iranian politics.

No, it was entirely spontaneous and a legitimate cry for political and social freedom.

    Who's "some people" anyway?

The protests actually complicated obamas foreign policy...

In fact, a new friend who recently transfered to my uni from iran was telling me how he blamed the west for not supporting them enough. He was saying that it was entirely the BBC's fault that the protests didn't do more because the BBC "shut up" after a week. First, i wasn't aware that the BBC went silent after a week (i certainly don't remember that, did the coverage significantly drop???) and also the regime is where the blame lies for responding so horrendously.

    well maybe not even "some"
A couple of weeks ago, I was listening to a recorded radio show on youtube (ill link it to you, if its still in my history). They mentioned it there. Not just that, but there's youtube videos saying the same thing.

These people actually think that the arab spring was a coup as well.

I thought i'd ask anyway thanks for clearing that up

Are you actually in Perth, Aus? :P

    EDIT:
