It's possible but don't rely on it, the straight economics course could be full.

Is it possible to apply for a course major and minor e.g. maths with economics (maths being major) and later on(once you've started uni) drop the maths side and just do straight economics
If you're thinking of Southampton, which I think you are (having seen your previous posts), then yes, it is possible. I got into Economics with Actuarial Science (Social Science department), and even though Maths wasn't in clearing, I still had the option to transfer to the Maths department, to do Maths and Actuarial Science, within 2 weeks of starting (which is was very close to doing). But of course, if they were uber over-subscribed (like medicine), then chances are slim.
