how picky are uni's over A level choices?
Well, while doin some research i noticed that some uni's didn't seem to worried about what subject's had been taken however some did seem rather more picky.

I was just wondering because i had started thinking about the possibility of doing architecture recently and my A level choices are exactly the best matched.

I'm doing chem at AS, and biology, history and photography at A2.
I also only achieved B at maths at GCSE and didn't do art either (although i know some people have still got in without art)

    Depends which unis.

If they don't specify it, it shouldn't make a huge deal, but not doing Art or maths might be a problem.

You'll have to do a portfolio at least.

Best bet is to go through the UCAS course search for architecture and see for yourself who asks for what (if it isn't specified there go to the individual uni websites and search by department). I just took a quick look at random and it varies a bit even at the higher end - Bath want AAA for architecture including an A in maths at GCSE, Liverpool (AAB) only want a C in maths at GCSE but you need to submit an "arts-based portfolio", whatever that means. Manchester want ABB with "a mixture of science / maths and humanities / arts subjects preferred." So you should browse that and see what suits you.

Most universities, with the exception of Bath and Sheffield (on some occasions), will require a portfolio of artwork, so not having done art at AS might be a bit of a problem.

I didnt do A level art. I did do it at GCSE thought. It didnt put me at a disadvantage. The only thing i couldnt do was apply to the Bartlett. Although i wasnt really that bothered. All my unis wanted a portfolio. It just meant i had to use the work from my DT along with loads of art stuff i had done by myself.

i do fine art at Alevel... but used none of my alevel work in my portfolio, instead i used stuff i'd worked on and completed at home. I don't think its a disadvantage, not doing art at Alevel. you've gotta have a strong interest in it though, obviously.

agree with RocketTown and Hispanic-Impressions. I did loads of stuff on my portfolio out of school....
but the only thing you should bear in mind is that the portfolio will cost you loads of time. have u got enough time for preparing it and doing well on your a-level subjects?
you are doing photography right now but what are your other advantages to do architecture?
    thinking carefully+good luck...

    sorry about my bad english..:P
If you can take good photos,it will be an advantage for you to study architecture I think.
But theres several points you should thinking about...
first, have you got some other advantages you think that can help you to do well in architecture? eg.are you good at drawing? are you really so passionate about architecture?(or just think architect is a well-paid job)do your personality suit this career?etc.
hope u can get what i meant this time.

just to add on ... being an architect is not work with cash .. even big architects if you some how gets the cash .. you won't be able to find time to spend it..

although i haven't even started my a-levels (planning on taking English (lang/lit), History, French, Art)

In my portfolio...would i be including a balance of school work & out of school work. i have loads of sketches n CAD stuff n photos of models i made at work experience, i'm doing some art & photography classes at CSM in the summer so i could include that?

Size wise...(i know its usually A3) how large should the content included be? Would it be useful to take sketchbooks along?
