The Police?

I'm currently doing a software engineering course, but I've always wanted to serve something bigger than me and for the good after I've finished Uni. This, along with the RAF (which I've also shown an interest in) would suit me, but I'm just a bit concerned. Anyone ever applied or work for the poilce atm? I don't want to be stuck in a cushy desk job coding Java, I'd rather actually help people, hell computer forensics would be good.
I'm currently in the application process for the police. I've passed the assessment centre and I'm awaiting the date for the fitness test which is the next stage. There is another police thread on this forum which you might want to consult.

Im going to be a Police Officer - Im in Merseyside Police Cadets at the moment (As I am only 16 and cant join yet + im going to uni).
