Anyone doing architecture in Cambridge?
Just wondering if anyone is studying architecture in Cambridge? Did you all get 90% average across all AS/A-Level modules? I'm thinking of applying this September but my AS results aren't that good - AABB, As in art and full A level maths, Bs in physics and history.
Would I get rejected straight away even if I have a strong personal statement? -
Re: Anyone doing architecture in Cambridge? No you won't but your predicted grades must be A*AA.. You should be o.k to get an interview, as long as your reference is very strong too. What were your percentages for your B's? If they were high, you should be alright.(Original post by Meh_)

My tutor wasn't being very optimistic about me applying to Cambridge and she was certain that I would get rejected straight away.
I have already done the whole maths A level last year and got an A. Would they still count this as part of the offer?

Re: Anyone doing architecture in Cambridge?Yes, make sure your existing and predicted grades indicate you can get A*AA, also contact all the head admission tutors and DoS (director of studies for arch) at the colleges you're thinking of applying to.... Personally I would avoid Emma, St Johns, Trinity and Kings as I think they would be too competitive for you in terms of grades but you should be fine everywhere else.(Original post by Meh_)

Re: Anyone doing architecture in Cambridge?Yep I've got my A*AA prediction, the A* is in Art. I'm also going to resit 2 Maths modules in Jan to improve the A to an A*, should I ask the teacher to mention this in my reference (I did the whole of maths A level last year you see)? Funnily enough, from the replies I received from almost all colleges in Cambridge, only Kings and St Johns mentioned that I wouldn't be disadvantaged for Jan resits.(Original post by King-Panther)

Re: Architecture
My thanks to Meh_ for starting this thread, this is just what I need, I'm looking to apply for Architecture at Cambridge too, and also got AABB.. wow
however the As were in Physics and DT. and Bs in Maths and Art... I have dropped DT (I preferred my other subjects)
That said, since Art is such a hard course, the most I can bump my grade up to at A2 is an A, and for Maths I'm going to resit C2 if my remark doesn't come out how I hope it will.
My question is I've heard that resits are not accounted for or something? If this is the case it will affect my application decisions severely.. -
Re: Anyone doing architecture in Cambridge?Yes, I'm aware they dislike resits. The A should be good enough so don't worry about it.(Original post by Meh_)

Re: The Cambridge Architecture Thread
Hello all,
visited the Architecture Dept in Cambridge! Already pooled and fished by Murray Edwards with a conditional offer of 41 - 7,7,6 in the IB.
I was a bit surprised seeing the faculty - it's pretty run down-looking and the "lecture hall" i was shown consists of a small room with a few old chairs - it's really basic. The studio was a normal studio, but first years get a tiny amount of desk space....
I'm kind of confused at the moment. Architecture students are expected to practically LIVE in the faculty, yet it's not the best I've seen in a mile...i asked fellow engineering applicants who had visited their respective faculties and they say Cambridge has great facilities in their courses.....
What's going on here? It feels like the Architecture faculty is getting the short straw in all of this. I don't want to sound mean or judgy, but for a place where you spend 3 years studying, it doesn't seem to fit into the whole "Cambridge" vision of education.....confused and a bit dissappointed atm.
Can any current Architecture student shed some light on this?
thank you!

Re: The Cambridge Architecture ThreadI don't do architecture there, but even I have heard that the department is meant to be terrible, there was alot of talk about Cambridge closing the course all together. Places like Sheffield, UCl are much better.(Original post by Sabi2012)

Re: The Cambridge Architecture ThreadDon't pay attention to the hype, its still one of the top 3 schools... UCL maybe, sheffield hardly.(Original post by hockeyjoe)

Re: The Cambridge Architecture Threadmate, paying attention to the hype is exactly the opposite of what I'm doing, the Bartlett at UCL is streets ahead of anyone else in the UK for architecture, Sheffield just had a brand new arts tower build for the discipline, Cambridge uses it's name to make up for shocking facilities and relatively low standard. I'm not saying that it's a terrible course, but it really isn't good considering the resources Cambridge has at it's disposal, and considering architecture is quite a nitsche subject, not everywhere does it.(Original post by King-Panther)

Um, no, they had there old one refurbished, I visited the uni recently.
Although the department may not be great they still offer a great course.
What do you intend to read at university? -
Re: The Cambridge Architecture ThreadI have heard of the AA, I've heard it's private and overpriced. Check my sig, but I was considering architecture when thinking about my degree.(Original post by King-Panther)

Re: The Cambridge Architecture Thread
Hi, I'm new here, and I was just wondering if anyone could who's at cambridge could tell me honestly what studying architecture there is like. I've got offers from there and bath, and I can't make my mind up on where to go - I know Cambridge is a great opportunity, but I've heard so many terrible things about it, like how people stab each other in the back to get ahead, that the degree is so much harder than anywhere else, and that architecture students never have any free time and that graduate prospects are considerably lower than bath and UCL etc. I don't want to throw away the opportunity, but I don't think I could go there and be miserable for 3 years. Anyone know what it's really like?! Thanks x
