Re: St johns ambulance
I am a SJA Volunteer.
Go noto their website and on their search for the most local division to where you live. There should be a contact number for you to ring to join up. It's really easy to join anyway - you just have to start going to the weekly sessions. Once you have statrted going regularly, they will invite you to do the first aid course. After which, you can start vvolunteering as a first aider. -
Re: St johns ambulance
Best to consider some other line of voluntary work, I'm afraid. That does sounds kinda irresponsible of them to keep you waiting like that. What about working as a First Aider with the British Red Cross? That could be fairly similar and exciting. And of course, hospices are always looking for fresh young volunteers. Don't forget the Samaritans also. There are plenty of viable alternatives

Re: St johns ambulance
well, you could try the Red Cross. i got in touch with them first and had the same problem though - with St John, i applied online, and got in contact that way - you should be able to find a telephone number for your unit/county division and get through to them directly like that...kind of odd they haven't got back to you, they're normally keen for new people.
i definitely wouldn't pay to do a first aid course with them, i doubt that'll help a medicine application much, and their standard one's 215 quid, but volunteering with them's pretty fun. the uniform's just a bit hideous though. -
Re: St johns ambulance
same, i just turned up at my local st johns. somebody further up was saying that county offices are really busy...i dont know about yours, but i sent off for uniform about 7 months ago and STILL haven't got it! but the first aid courses you can do are quite good, and i make my hours count towards my millennium volunteering...you could try going through them, if that helps.

Re: St johns ambulanceI get what ya mean(Original post by Renal)
*sigh*
anyways SJA is a good way to volunteer, I was in it for 6 years (sadly in two and a half year I clocked up nearly 1000 hours volunteering). I used to teach first aid, I wouldnt advise joining cadets cos they can't really teach you anything interesting.Last edited by fatal; 21-05-2008 at 14:17.
