Nah, I'm going to leave it. I was going to put them as my insurance but there's not much point now. I'll just have Gloucestershire as my firm and that's all.

york also sent me another course... wtf!!!
What did they send you?
Reply 363
they gave me something related... by a thread :s-smilie:
Theater :P
Well, that is a rather thread-hanging choice I suppose. I think they chose mine based on the A Levels I did (two of which are Computing and English Lit)

My Gloucestershire University interview was today and I absolutely fell in love with the place! I feel like I'm going to be firming it  It's Skillset too, which is great. The woman who runs the course (Ruth) used to work in the industry for quite some time, and worked for Leeds Uni too but moved to Gloucestershire. She changed it so that instead of doing the placement at the end of the second year (where if you do and you get job offers, you can't take them 'cause you're still going for your degree) to doing them after the third year (finishing modules around about Easter and then doing Work Placements) The campus is small, but I really liked it. I loved the town as well.

Sameeee, I absolutely loved Gloucester. Ruth was great though, we had a ten minute discussion in my interview about 24, and how we watch it with our brothers and so on.

A few people have been asking about portfolios and stuff, and I went to my interview with just one short film thing I'd made for Yr12 Media coursework, and still got an offer. So I reckon, depending on the place, it's more about your personality etc.
Ruth and I had a discussion on Reality TV and she recommended The Wire to me (and although it started on the BBC I haven't got around to watching it :frown: I REALLY hate having to watch something weekly, so I'm saving up for the DVDs, or waiting for a sale on them XD). I think she liked my enthusiasm about the course and everything. I can't wait to (hopefully) start there in September/October.
I want to do English and Theatre Studies but probs won't get the grades high enough :frown:

Hi all, I'm looking at courses for start 2010 and TV Production is my main gut-feeling at the moment.

I've wanted to produce film since I was ten, but the past few years I've definitely begun to feel that TV would be better for me.

I've got good GCSEs (9 A*s, 2 Bs), which include Expressive Arts (done in a year, in yr9) and Drama, as well as a BTEC 1st Cert. in Acting.
I'm at a grammar school (pah), doing AS Levels in History, French, Media and English Lit, and I'm anticipating (and excited to) dropping French. I'm expecting to get good grades (although I'm worried how they'll be at AS), so I think I should be sorted academically (especially as my media A-Level has very little practical application, and is mostly theory based)

My experience currently is limited - I directed a short film as part of a summer camp when I was 14, and that is as far as it goes really. For my media coursework I produced a website and two magazine articles (which looked really good I thought) for a film I made up.

I have e-mailed a couple of non-broadcast production companies in my nearest city to ask about the possibility of any work experience, and next week I am going to call up my local newspaper (not sure how relevant that will be, but better than nothing, eh?)

Creatively, my output is limited apart from the group-project, but I am going to have a conversation with my media teachers, and I'm going to start on a few short scripts once my exams are over. I also think I should be able to find some photos that might be appropriate. Also, a friend doing a college media-course has suggested a collaboration of some sort. I am hopefully going to buy a decent camera soon, but I have no inspiration or ideas of anything to make, and I am worried I will not be able to persuade any one to take part.

The issue I have is with selecting a course. As well as TV Production, I am interested in Journalism (and would maybe intend to specialise in this in post-graduate studies), and would conceivably study English Literature. I have read this thread through, and others, and all it has served to do is confuse me!

I would like a course theory and creative-expression based, although with interesting exploration of technical skills. Skillset accreditation is very important to me, as are good facilities and links with industry professionals (through tutors and lecturers, and work placement opportunities). I am keen do go to a respected university, (partly because I go to an extremely competitive and judgemental school). Any learning about script-writing would be interesting, as would any focus on production management (the two areas I am most keen to explore.)

Currently, I am interesting in Bournemouth, Leeds and Westminster. What are my chances of getting a place here? Are there any other places you feel might be appropriate? AM I ASKING TOO MUCH?

Also, any recommended reading? or anything I might do to increase my chances?

(I realise this has been a long read (which is why I've bolded ) , and I appreciate you reading to the end, and any responses you might have!)

Thanks, Rx
For Leeds you're looking for BBB I think, or 300 UCAS points. I think Bournemouth has some As in their required offers, but it might be BBB as well. Probably the same for Westminster. Bournemouth and Westminster interview and I think require portfolios, Leeds gave me an offer without an interview or portfolio (or any mention in my personal statement about having done any, or even any work experience in the business). I advise you to go to open days - I would have ignored Gloucestershire had I not been invited to an interview there and seen it, but I went and fell in love and it's my firm now.

I know Gloucestershire will be upping their requirements starting with 2010 entry, so you'll have to double check any requirements whenever they publish their new prospectuses.

I've firmed Westminster for Film and TV Production and they have asked for BBB. I think the ones you've mentioned are probably your best bet; they all allow you specialise in various areas whilst giving you the freedom to explore them all and decide which ones you prefer. The facilities and industry links are also brilliant so I guess it all comes down to open days and which you prefer the look/feel of!

On a side note, for the Westminster interview a portfolio is required BUT don't panic about not having enough experience or work to show your talent. The personal statement and questionnare (this is what they base their interviews on) are huge part of whether you'll get a place or not - make sure you show enthusiasm! If you have any questions feel free to PM me; I was in your situation and, after hearing about the competition for these unis, felt I would never get a place, but alas, here I am! So yeah, don't hesitate to ask anything!
I'd like to ask you if Westminster's course Broadcast Television Production is good. I sent them the questionnaire, they accepted it and I've got the offer from them. However, they didn't call me for the interview  Also, I have the offers from Greenwich and Middlesex and now I don't know which uni to take as a firm and an insurence. I'm considering Westminster very seriously. They want 28 IB points.
Which to choose??

Heya, i'm not too sure about the broadcasting degree but I know a couple of people who will be studying it this September. Obviously i'm going to be biased and tell you that Westminster is your best bet, but to be honest, it's all down to you and what you want out of university. I know people going to all three so I think it just depends on personal preference
