I think its important for you all to realize that A levels are pathetic compared to US Education. My 15 year old sister is currently doing in high school what I finished doing at A level.

Right now I believe she is doing things like Integration, Imaginary numbers and the area under a curve.

Also I wouldn't expect any A levels to transfer, When i tried to have my further maths transfer in as Calculus credit, the guy asked to see some examples of question papers. He started laughing. Seriously.

I would go ahead and say the Equivalent of an A level is a 10th grade education.

i woudlnt agree with this whatsoever...i had about 5 interviews this year and the Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Cornell grads all said that a UK school education is looked upon very very highly in the US.

Primarily because it is standardised across the country but also because they rate the quality of the A levels/Advanced Highers/IB

its a ridiculous assumption to take one school....and one student and use her to completely denounce the whole british education system

im not quite sure how old 10th grade is but if your comparison is true then Yale would happily accept some of the 10th graders to use their results to apply for admission!! Considering they allow A levels to substitute in for SAT 2s.

Ok, I'm just curious, I have a place at a good UK uni already, but, how old is the usual, average, standard 1st year at an American university (1st degree).

So what age is 10th grade then?

What do they teach at the highest end of non- uni education maths wise?
I've heard really conflicting things about the American education system! On the one had they do like UK A-level students, but on the other the course equivalents seem to teach to a higher level...

Same age as us...but they do a four year liberal arts undergrad degree and then specialise or get jobs.
10th grade is 15 and 16; not everyone does liberal arts- there are degrees in engineering, business, etc., and not all undergraduate degrees are four years.
Note on HSAs. If you go to private school you don't have to take them.

hey evryone I just came to this post and I'm really really worried as I'm applying to us universities. I did A Levels in high school and when filling a uni application I was struck with the credits page and was somehow confused as I dont know any sort of equivalence of my A Levels to the us high school system. I gave the uni a call, I was shocked when the guy at the admissions was like what wat r u talkin about? he didnt know much about A Level. What I am scared of is that they overlook my A Levels and give me a straight-off rejection, could nyone help me here?
