Yeah thats good advice. We had a "minor" problem with this a couple of years ago and it created havok.

Hi, great thread, really helpful. Whats the difference between a "Shared study area" and a "Shared study bedroom" they seeem exactly the same on the virtual tour website and for that matter the "shared ensuite bathroom" and the "shared ensuite bedroom"?

Also whats the stigma behind the shared ensuites that "ccauses so many headaches" not really considering them but its worth knowing cause i do have friends going and we might be sharing in some capacity.

The "shared study area" is the actual study room belonging to the "shared study bedroom" so there is no difference at all really.

Not sure what you mean when you say the stigma behind the en-suites. I'd love to know though so shout up and I'll try to give you a straight answer.

There is the shared en-suite option as well but that causes so many headaches I can't honestly recommend them.

I just meant when you said this, what is it that causes all the headaches etc ?

Also if you get an ensuite how come it restricts you socialising wise , isnt the only thing thats different is that your room is diffeerent, or are they all separate and away from other rooms? :s

Sorry, i know this isn't directed at me but i'll give it a go at answering! Normally, 'stereotypically' people with en-suites don't go out or socialise with other people - as they have everything they need in their room. (Although this isn't always the case). The "headaches" with shared ensuites are probably because of: there are only two of you sharing one bathroom, therefore if you fall out with this one other person there could be trouble! Also, if you don't lift/put down the toilet seat etc.....you know who's done it: p therefore it can cause a few arguments whereas if you shared with 6/7 others in normal accommodation you just accept the fact that they will get dirty/grotty quickly and just joke about it!

Hope this helps

no , thanks joe55 that was helpful appreciate it , still dont quite understand how if you have your own bathroom you dont go out and socialise , like all going out plans are made in the communal bathrooom lol!? (i know its stereotypicallly but still...).

Where are you thinking in terms of accomodation joe?

Ok I've found the original post now and jogged my memory (i'm getting forgetful in my old age ya know!)

This was referring not to the social side of things but more with the room type. If you were choose this room you have absolutely no control over who gets the other half of the suite. It will be same sex and of a similar age but if you don't get along with that person or one of you always tidys up and the other is really messy, it's going to cause conflict between you. If you get along ok, no problem; you'll have a wail but we always get a few students who can't stand the other person and as its the people that make the hall you could end up being miserable.

There is a minor chance that the room won't get filled in which case you essentially get an en-suite bathroom all to yourself but its very unlikely.

Hmmm...did that make sense?

Ha i know! My brother goes to Warwick and he was talking to me about it. Basically, (i must stress this is a sweeping generalisation and don't be offended: p) people with ensuites in general are slightly more nervous/shy and conscious about their bodies etc. Therefore they get a nice ensuite which is cosy and safe:smile: You just get to know people quicker in my opinion if you share a communal bathroom etc. It's like...."Your in this together" kinda thing? But whatever takes your fancy really!

Putting Nottingham down as my Firm tonight! Then i'll choose accommodation....going for the standard room, (not enlarged or anything) probably.....Cripps or Lenton & Wortley? Perhaps Hu Stu i'm not too sure?! Yourself? What subject are you doing btw?

I only applied yesterday! So i wasn't exactly expecting to get to choose accommodation straight away! It's working now though:biggrin: Why are Hu Stu and Cavendish in shaded boxes? Does this mean there's no rooms available anymore in them?

It means that the specific room type you are looking for is already fully allocated in those halls but there are other room types that are still available in both.

I hear you get £4.68 for lunch or something on a meal card. But if you don't spend that all (say on a monday), does the remainder of that money you spent go ontot he next day? Or how does it work? ie. you get £20 a week on the card, you spend it however? Also, can you spend it at any time of the day or in separate transactions? ie. 10 am -9pm? cheers

During the open day I was told that any money left over that you haven't spent wouldn't be carried over to the next day. So, no.

Basically, your so-called "£4.68" entitles you to one transaction per lunchtime of £4.68 or below, so however much you spend in that transaction, be it 10p or £4.68, your balance will be wiped to zero for the day.
