I was considering it for a laugh, and then saw the types of people from college who were signing up, and realised I would rather spend three hours cutting my lung out with a spoon than have a meal with them.

Oh god - I had the worst luck with rag blind dates - and I always paid loads too! One year it was so bad I hid in the bathroom... luckily I received a call from a friend, he came and rescued me and we got together instead.

The worst thing about it is waiting for them - you're in the Anchor or whatever, a really cute guy comes up to you with a twinkle in his eye, you know you're going to hit it off, and he says... 'are you Emily?'

No I'm not sodding Emily.

And then you just wait for the inevitable 4 foot 8 greasy creep with the bible in his hand.

Haha I didn't do it last year and thought to myself at the time that if everyone else had a great time I might do it this year. But I'd say on the whole...they didn't have a great time.

I did it last year. My date was a sweetie, if a little shy, but was only looking for friendship. My friend's date was a little, um, odd is the politest way of putting it I think!

Given that the majority seem to think their date was odd, simple logic suggests it is quite likely we ourselves were perceived as such too.

I would do it - and I was being pestered in hall today to sign up - but since I'd have to check the box for being already in a relationship, I don't think I'd be able to appreciate all of the potential cringeworthiness of the date, which is presumably the only real reason people go in for it.
