The Republic of Slovenia and the European Union express support for Somalia's stance regarding the status of Somaliland.

However, we believe the matter of aid is for the discretion of donor countries. Given the relative stability within the Somaliland region in comparison to the shaky grip the Transitional Federal Government has on Mogadishu we are inclined to push the Transitional Federal Government to consider alternative solutions, including the breakup of Somalia if necessary, to resolve the chronic instability within the region....

Somalia believes that any donar nation giving money to the people of Somalia should have to ask the TFG and not approach the Somaliland authorities as they are not legitimate. Ths should be adopted b all nations especially the europeans.

Concerning the break up of Somalia Somalia thinks that is outrageous as Somalia is and should always be one nation.

The Republic of Slovenia and the European Union support the current arrangements with regards to the TFG but believe that alternative options including break-up should be examined.

Aid, as this delegate has pointed out, should be at the discretion of the donor, and given to the authority with the best ability to distribute it both efficiently and with minimal diversion, regardless whether these bodies are legitimate or not in the eyes of individual states.

Liechtenstein thinks that this should be in the hands of the citizens of Somalia, and is not for the Un to interfere. The process of splitting Africa up into countries was not done with respect to the existing clan system in Somalia, so this situation is not altogether surprising.

Somaliland seems to be in a relatively stable state at present, and liechtenstein sees no reason not to acknowledge independence.

The acknowledgement of Somaliland's independance would lead to a lot of problems in Africa as a whole. If you recognise Somaliland, you will have to recognise the Western Sahara, parts of Sudan and many other destinations in the worl. You are reducing the little influence the TFG has over it's people as you are highlighting us as un able to run the country effectively and undermining our position.

The Delegate for Slovenia cannot help but feel the instability and insecurity of the TFG being reflected though the gross misinterpretation of EU policy on the options towards stability by the Hon. Delegate for Somalia...

The USA maintains it's current position, and is unlike to recognise a country unrecognised by the AU.

May I ask the USA wh it had sent a top official in jendayi frazier to that province of Somalia. Can you please clarify your statement as it seems you are willing to recognise Somaliland if the Au does, regardless what we think.

Double posted, stupid internet.

The USA delegate currently notes that the American goverment is currently split on how to proceed in regards to Somaliland, but at this moment in time, we do not officially recognise Somaliland, but have no comment on how we will interact with the country in the future, as the matter is currently being debated in the goverment.
