It depends on your Uni. But there are already threads like this, so try a quick search

Sorry this has probably been posted before but can anyone explain to me how universities work out your overall degree grade when you graduate? Is it just a case of working out your average across all modules in the first and second year? or do they work out your average from a selection of your highest marks?

thanks:smile:

It's a case of having a look at your course handbook. All the information you need should be in there.
lots of posts try this http://thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?p=11100075

but as said, you need to find out from your dept

It varies uni to uni. Some will disount one really bad mark in the overall rankings, some won't. The weighting will be different at different places too.

At my university the overall grade is as follows:

total = (Average of all second year modules) * 1/3 + (Average of all third year modules) * 2/3

If total 0.7\geq 0.7 then you get a first
If .6.6 \leq total <.7<.7 then you get a 2:1
If .5.5 \leq total <.6<.6 then you get a 2:2
If .4.4 \leq total <.5<.5 then you get a third
