UCL vs Nottingham

Is Nottingham anywhere close to being on a par with UCl? I have offers from both for History, and while i think UCL is a better institution i am worried about living in London because of expense and lifestyle. I am attracted to Nottingham because of its more university style campus and some other stuff! Just wondering what people thought about the academic reputation of Nottingham etc? Any help would be appreciated!

I want to comment of the chances of getting shot in Nottingham. But that would annoy people who live there.

However you can't go to university somewhere which you don't like i.e. london. + allthough UCL is regonised as a better uni ,the two are not worlds apart so you have to go where you feel most comfortable.
