I wouldn't imagine that A2 mechanics would be much use for compsci, but if you do the FP1, 2 and 3 and then focus on stats for your applied modules it would probably look good. I'm no expert though, probably the best people to contact are the university itself.

Mech could be useful if modelling some sort of physics engine.

my god... what about all of those computer games that have things moving in them (i.e. 99% of games)?

...and at Cambridge you have to take a course from natsci in first year, which for a lot of compscis/colleges is Physics (or Geology, dunno anyone who did anything else but I suppose some must) so having Physics is kinda helpful. Then again, if you're doing Geography then Geology would be fine (it'd be fine even if you didn't have Geography) so yeh, do Further Maths, the whole a-level is possible - which it probably is really since I am presuming you are pretty awesome at Maths

There are about 70 or so compscis in my year, (I'm a fresher).

Further Maths and anything to do with Physics will help enormously, as most of us take Mathematics B (advanced natsci maths) and Physics,

I've e-mailed Trinity College and as far as they are concerned, the subjects that are essential is maths. Further maths and physics are both highly desireable and computer science quite useful though not very. A Thinking Skills Assessment is required for many candidates, and CS+engineering included - some kind of logical reasoning test.

My maths teacher told me that AEA or even better STEP maths should help a lot in maths, engineering and CS courses. A good mark in it or even a good reference from the tutor teaching you STEP/AEA maths should make your application shine.

Sounds cool, comp sci is a dwindling subject anyway but every little advantage helps! GL with your app

I got into emmanuel this year, and they wanted me to do further maths to at least As, and it was actually included in my offer (but only b grade ), so definately go for that one. physics is also helpful.

If you have the choice of doing it at A2, then it will look bad on you.

    I can assume, anyway.

I have a question ; Is Cambridge the best in the UK for computer science or is Imperial College better on that field..?where will the career opportunities be better?

    They'd want an A, and I believe a B will look bad.

    Re: Computer Science
According to the Times, Cam is the best for comp sci, as it is for pretty much every course in the country.

But it all depends on what you want from the course to consider it "the best"

Cambridge is a very theoretical course, for one.
Compare it to places like Bristol, for example, who's course is a good mix of practical and theoretical.
And then again compare it to places like Birmingham, who's course is on the more practical end of things.

They'll be great at either; I'd say Cambridge would shade it but I would say that. :p:
Just apply to both and make your decision when you get the offers.

what about doing it only to as? they say they dont mind as long as its to AS as this is "extremely preferred" and a2 is "Helpful"

All I can say that AS would be better than nothing, and A2 better than AS. But if you do FP1, FP2 and FP3 as your AS modules then you'd have done the important ones, and I think they'd be quite happy with that.

Hmm.. I think im still going to stick with AS only since im doing 2 natural sciences along side it... Now i just need to get those "wanted" grades or i dont stand a chance

probaly not because i had the choice of doing it to A2, and they still took me on (out of a class of five, three of us only took it to As and the other two are continuing the A2 further maths) and besides i was being predicted a b for further maths As and that's what they offered me, so yeah, if you only do it to As and you're getting b/a then what's to worry about.
