i've not chosen my firm or insurance yet, but nottingham is likely to be one of them.

hopefully want to get a single ensuite, if not just a single room. the larger ones aren't that much different & not really worth an extra £500 or whatever.

you going catered?

You have to go catered if you want to live in Halls. There is only Broadgate Park, Raleigh Park or St. Peter's court for self-catered.

Yeah, was thinking self-cated ... then back to catered ... argh its all confusing. Self-catered I imagine would be very good for the first two weeks, and then a chore. Also I found that all the SC places are off campus and therefore can be unsociable.

Hm they are sociable in a different sense. You have a community feel in a hall. However, you tend to make friends with your flat if you live in a flat, and then flat parties are held and such, so..

I wouldn't say being in a self-catered hall is a 'chore'. You will enjoy having the luxury of being able to eat what you want, when you want rather than having to eat at specific times (and some very bad things have been said about the food in the catered halls in Uni Park). Plus, sooner or later you'll have to learn to cook for yourself when you move into a house in your second and third years anyway.

I'm at Broadgate Park literally just outside the West Entrance of Uni Park and I wouldn't say it's unsociable at all. I've made plenty of friends and there's things going on all the time. I've got a single ensuite room and in a flat with 6 other people. But if you were in a studio room, that would be harder to socialise as there's no communal area like a kitchen.

Another good thing about the self-catered halls is that you can keep all your stuff in your room over Christmas and Easter whereas in the catered halls in Uni Park you have to empty out your room every time the term ends which would be an absolute pain...

For freshers I would always actively promotecatered halls. You don't have to worry about much and you make your friends, easy/easier to socialise etc.As to room type, I always ask for single shared bathroom (have a room, most of the time larger than normal, and a bathroom to share with one other person) but that's just me.
If you want to go self-catered, you have to put in a bit more effort but there are the perks.

I'd suggest however that you stay in halls for your first year and then just choose a room already :p: the ensuite rooms tend to be a bit smaller than normal rooms with having to fit in the bathrooms and all, but as to which hall is better,no one can really say. the people make the hall. everyone can argue that they're hall is the best, but if you get stuck with lively people obviously you may have a worse/better time than someone who's stuck with lazier/calmer people. it just depends as everyone's fairly randomly allocated.

I've just accepted Nottingham as my firm, and have applied for an ensuite room at Broadgate park  I'd like the freedom of being able to cook what I want when I want, and would find making friends with a few flatmates easier than being in a catered hall.

Room: Single-study at Cripps
Why: The possibility of being my neighbour!!! (Oh, and Single-study rooms are the best)
go for a shared bathroom thing...own room...share a bathroom with 1 other person....basically as good as an en-suite but a lot cheaper. oh and cripps is the best!
