Re: Caraniel's Spring 2008 Anime Preview Bonanza!
Dont be mean Vin!
Euge!
Hmmm I've really neglected this thread. Oh well, for anyone that may be remotely interested I've compiled my personal top 10 anime of the Spring 2008 season
Of the 28 shows I previewed I've picked up 19 (plus an extra 2 I felt no one would be interested in enough for me to write about
). The season has been running for a number of weeks now, and I've seen 5-6 eps of each of the shows I picked up, so its high time I got a top 10 together!
These rankings are based on my personal tastes and as such you may completely disagree with me - I'm going to rank based on what shows I'm most excited about week in week out
So without any more meaningless rambling lets start shall we!?
1. Code Geass R2
The seasons biggest show is also my number one. R2 has not disappointed one iota! I'm sure most of you will agree that come Sunday evening we're all refreshing the download sites looking for our fix of Geass!
For this reason and the fact its just epic, its number one in my book.
2. Vampire Knight
Now we may run into differences of opinion here
VK is in this position because I love the way this anime adaption has turned out! Its gorgeous to look at, the voice acting is brilliant and the music is fabulous - all adding up to a great watch. I will admit that I'm slightly biased since I have a great love of the manga, Jun Fukuyama, Mamoru Miyano & vampires,
but this is still excellent Shoujo!
3. Soul Eater
This show is great fun! I look forward to it every week because its just fun to watch! Sure the plot is thin on the ground ATM & Maka's VA is irritating - but the animations inspired, music's excellent & the energy that this show generates is just a blast! One of the best new shounen out, I can see this becoming epic.
4. Nabari no Ou
Excellent ninja shounen that takes a different approach to the usual fare. Its the characters that make this show brilliant - each and everyone of the cast has a multifaceted personality, there is no black and white - everyone is shades of gray, and thats what appeals to me. The ninja action is superbly animated, I really like the character designs & love the OP and I'm very interested in where the plot is going. Nabari has bucket loads of potential and I for one am looking forward to the journey.
5. Allison & Lillia
This show has surprised me, I never imagined it would be as purely entertaining as it has turned out to be. I look forward to every episode mainly for the characters who are very appealing. The animation is simple up well done - I actually cant pinpoint what makes this show good, all the little details add up to an entertaining watch ;yes;
6. Kure-nai
Another show that surprised me - I thought it would either be more comedic & harem-y or dark and action orientated, what I got was quirky slice of life with the odd dark undertone!
The pacing is slowish and I've yet to get exactly what the plot is meant to be, but I still really look forward to every episode. Its a very character driven anime, and the characters are what make it worth watching for me. The animation may not be to everyone's taste, but I'm well used to it having already seen Red Garden. Overall I'm interested in seeing how this show turns out.
7. xxxHOLiC Kei
One of the shows I was most looking forward to, but knowing the plot inside out and back to front has worked against me - I've become a purist! I find myself nitpicking when I should really just be enjoying the show and thats why I've ranked xxxHOLiC quite low. Its still excellent, Production IG have really captured the manga perfectly, but unlike Vampire Knight I'm just not as excited about this anime adaption mainly due to the cutting out of all Tsubasa references (it annoys me and it really shouldnt
). Still its great to see Watanuki & Yuuko animated, they're great no matter what
8. Library War (Toshokan Sensou)
Ah this is a great wee series - I get major Full Metal Panic vibes off it due to the romcom and military nature of it. Again its the characters that make the show, all are very appealing and likeable. The animation is also great - its another Production IG triumph, the chibi moments are particularly well done. Remember books are serious business!
9. Monochrome Factor
This is a bit of a guilty pleasure - it really should not be entertaining but it is
I like the bishie character designs and the humour. Theres really not much to the show but it still appeals to me for reason and I look forward to it every week!
10. Itazura no Kiss
I take it all back! So far as comedy shoujo goes this PWNs Special A. The old school animation is still ugly, but the story and characters have made me forgive the shows inherrent uglyness! I find myself smiling at Kotoko's antics and wanting to smack Naoki for being an arrogant but likeable ********! Its just a very engaging, entertaining shoujo series and I'm glad I didnt drop it after the 1st episode.
So theres my personal top 10 - it tends to change every week though
Honorable mentions go to Amatsuki & Tower of Druaga who just missed out.
Anyone got any comments or want to add your own top 5 / 10 lists?Last edited by caraniel; 20-05-2008 at 00:04. -
Re: Caraniel's Spring 2008 Anime Preview Bonanza!
I'm only watching three new series (I have every episode of Allison and Lillia so far, but haven't got round to starting it yet
)
My number one has to be Code Geass R2. It really is this season's must-see. Unpredictable plot, great characters, superb animation and the mech/action scenes are awesome. 5/5 rating; not liking it as much as the first series yet, but it has only just started after all...
Number two is Wagaya no Oinari-sama. Wasn't overly impressed at the start, but I've grown to like it. It is actually very funny in places, the action scenes aren't great but the main focus is the comedy aspect of the series (so far). 3.5/5
Thirdly, Kyoran Kazoku Nikki. I had to watch it, it has a cat girl and a jellyfish FFS! And it is a great fun series, if a little hyper
I've also given this series 3.5/5, but if new episodes of KKN and Oinari-sama came out on the same day, I'd watch Oinari first.

Re: Caraniel's Spring 2008 Anime Preview Bonanza!
sorry cara this thread is ghey

Ive been liking code geass R2 so far, but so far its been going fairly slowly with eps around the school, but its still early so im hoping it will pick up more
. The animation and the battles have been great so far and i hope will continue to get better. Definatly loving the characters and the stuff they wear :^_^:
Been watching soul eater too, Id heard about the animation being different so wasnt quite sure what to expect, but I really like it
. Its bright and has a certain look I havnt seen much, not really so keen on many of the characters yet, black star seems stupidly annoying, and maka just seems dull. Do feel sorry for tsubaki though. Not really sure where the story is going but ithere havnt been many eps. Ah the two versions, Im still not sure of the differences between them.
