Should zav represent China in the Security Council?

Dear delegates.

zav, the representative of Venezuela, is nominating himself to represent China in the Security Council:

zav's manifestoThis is my second time in the MUN representing Cyprus, Brazil and Venezuela which I have thoroughly enjoyed.

The opportunity to represent China and learn about there role in International Relations interests me as I have not studied Chinese politics to a great extent and see this as an ideal opportunity to do so. My enthusiasm to learn about China should be reflected through my active participation and postings in the MUN. Although I am currently enjoying my role as Venezuela in the GA I would relish the opportunity to be able to take part in the SC debate while becoming more active in the GA.

If elected I aim to write more resolutions to cement China’s position in the world while challenging the current balance of power in the MUN. China gives me the opportunity to continue the role of a socialist government while having a larger influence and resources to base my input into the MUN and increase my participation

A couple of days will pass in which you are welcome to present him with questions and challenges relating to his suitability for the role, and of China's significance in the UN. After this point, voting will begin.

What is China's stance on the future of Darfur at a time when, even within your own Olympic committee, people are crying out for action? Will you act on this on-going atrocity sooner rather than later?

China is dedicated to resolving world conflicts in a peaceful humane fashion. After doubts were raised over our dealing with the Darfur issue we have appointed a new special representative to Africa to review our position. We also have confirmed plans to dispatch 275 military engineers for UN peacekeeping operations.

We have the same concerns as the rest of the world and want to solve the crisis. However we do not believe stopping oil purchase would solve this crisis. We intend to do this through political dialog and careful negotiation. Our relationship with the Sudanese government will only strengthen chance of the SC achieving this goal.

We are disappointed that Mr Spielberg has decided to leave our Olympic Committee. However this is his individual case which we intend to prove wrong with our actions in the time to come.

Can my friend the Israel representative kindly expand on which situation he is referring to?

Do you mean the training of Muslim extremists in the mountainous areas around Pakistan?

EDIT: ooc I know there are many issues with Pakistan such as the escalating violence in the country after the elections but do not think these would be a cause for international intervention? I am probably missing the idea completely though sorry...

Lol.

Israel is referring to the elections and the rise in suicide bombings in the region. Our main concern however is the influence and growth of Islamic extremists in the region...and with Pakistan being armoured with nuclear arms we are concerned that they could fall into the wrong hands....only then will military action be used and that too will be if every other avenue fails.

Also you had strong relations with the President and if he does step down...what will be your take on the issue?

[ooc]I've really cocked this up![ooc]

What do you hope to bring to the MUN table as China?

Voting has begun. Representatives are required not to reveal or hint at their decision before the poll closes. In the interim, representatives are more than welcome to continue challenging the candidate through discussion and debate, as 5 days remain before a decision need be made

What will you bring to the MUN as China?

Being the representative for China is a big role in the MUN. They have the world’s fastest expanding economy and have been tooted as the new world superpower. The face of China is every changing and whoever represents them needs to be constantly keeping up with the fast pace changes.

I really want to learn about how China conducts International Relations and hopefully this will be reflected in my MUN contributions.

As China I want to explore many issues including Darfur, human rights, nuclear weapons, North Korea, Nepal, Taiwan, trade relations and the balance of westerns vs. eastern powers.

I know that my knowledge in Chinese politics is lacking but hopefully I can make up for that as I go along.

China and Pakistan have had good diplomatic relations since 1951 when they were opened. China fully supports the government of Pakistan and there capability to deal with the current political unrest in the country. The countries nuclear capability does not worry China due to the faith we have in the current administration to make sure that this stays in the right hands. Although if we felt any countries nuclear programme was a threat to China we would of course seek to take action. As we believe this is not the case Pakistan remains a loyal friend in the world arena.

Many countries have the problem of terrorist attacks but this will not deter China from standing by our allies.

OOC: Thanks

China supports Iran as a peaceful nation who wishes to use nuclear energy for non-military purposes. China will not support the US war against oil rich countries which the pursicution of Iran is. When previously asked to make a statement on this matter our Foreign Minister of the time, Li Zhaoxing declared our oposition to Iran being refered to the SC.

China will continue to block the military action against Iran in the SC.

Do you want me to expand?

Sudan's economy is growing at close to 10% a year and much of that is down to its relationship with China.

Without the money China has invested in Sudan the country would be even worse off. As we have previously stated diplomatic means are the best course of action to resolve this conflict and our strong ties will help with this. China cutting diplomatic ties with Sudan now would only weaken the world's power to bring an end to this conflict.

Afghanistan would like to challenge China's stance on this issue, as diplomatic means have not been effective. With over 7,000 AU troops and 3,000 UN troops in Sudan (as of April 2007), I think the UN has begun to see sense on the mindless killings happening every day in the region. However, we will not at this time support an act of aggression in the country unless the UN examines all possible means for non-violent mediation tactics, which we feel have not been looked in to rigorously enough.
Within the MUN, would you work with other SC members to draft a new, binding resolution related to Nuclear Weapons?

China is always open to discussion on more restrictions on nuclear weapons. If we feel that this can be achieved and all members will abide then China will listen to the SC wishes.

What kind of resolution did the representative from Russia have in mind?
Russia is glad that china is open to discussion.

Russia is considering numerous avenues, including a more binding non-proliferation treaty lending a greater level criminality to aiding nations with nuclear development, as well as new testing agreements and binding agreements on the level of nuclear weapons.

We are also looking at mutual safety agreements regarding missile defence and tracking.

These possibilities will be put up for debate in the SC when the election is concluded.
