Socialists Question Time AKA 'Ask a Socialist'
This thread is for anybody to ask questions of any members of the socialist party. We will aim to get you a response as quickly as possible.
Socialists posting in this thread should indicate how 'official' their view is. While as a party we have no official platform, you should indicate if you think your view is outside the norm for other Socialist Party members.
Let the questioning commence! -
Re: Socialists Question Time AKA 'Ask a Socialist'
The same argument was made against having a minimum wage at all when it was first introduced a decade ago. Given that we're in a period of the lowest unemployment ever, I don't think it was a very good argument.
We stand for a decent living wage for all workers so that everybody is fairly compensated for the work they do.
And I'm quite partial to a bit of Lemon Cheesecake, or a Victoria Sponge. Can't speak for the rest of us though. -
Re: Socialists Question Time AKA 'Ask a Socialist'Cheesecake mainly. I'm more a fan of pies and puddings than cakes per se.(Original post by Tory Dan)
What sort of cake do you like?
It's all a matter of balance. There will come a point where as you increase the minimum wage prices would rise at a similar rate, rendering the whole business pointless. Presumably Alasdair does not think that this point has been reached and i am inclined to agree with him.(Original post by Thud)
why did alasdair_R once post that a higher minimum wage would be a good thing? Considering that rising it would lead to higher costs for businesses therefore increasing the unemployment rate of the working class. -
Re: Socialists Question Time AKA 'Ask a Socialist'1) I don't think that's true, but we can argue the toss.(Original post by monagro)
Why would someone work if he would have a very similar life (on a view of money matters) without working? I personally believe he would not, causing him to take benefits.
2) I don't see where we've ever proposed anything like that.
