    Unite Student Housing
What are people's experiences of student accommodation provided by Unite?

For legal and confidential reasons I cant go into details, but last I heard there were serious issues with a set of Unite provided buildings possibly being unfit for purpose.

What are other people's experiences? Good? Bad? Ugly? Best place on earth?

    Just curious.

i also had an awful experience with Unite. the whole company has been seriously unhelpful and obstructive. considering our building is only 4 years old and the problems are structual it shows how badly onstructed the place was, and i know that other people have had the same problems in the building. the only person who has been of any help is our resident manager, anybody higher has been useless. i wouldn't suggest living in unite to anyone.

It seems to very wildly from place to place. I thoroughly researched the Sheffield Unite property I'm moving into and everyone I've spoken to there has no complaints.

    It varies.

Ive had serious problems with them for over a year. I have to agree with the funky fashionista . The staff are unhelpful, the building is very badly designed and maintained. No-one cares or even picks up the phone in London. For legal reasons I cant go into details here but I would not live in a unite property ever again or advise anyone else to. Very badly managed. They didn't even pay any attention to my preferred choices. Id like to say its only me but the buildings half empty as no-one wants to live here. Ive also just found out im paying a lot more than other people living next door. Great.

    Re: Unite Student Housing
I moved into one in Cardiff about two years ago when I studied my foundation course. It was good but they did like to charge for sundrys (lost key cards, repair work that didnt need doing.) Its heavily dependent on the management and team working their, if they are ok, you stand a better chance than the ones I had which incidentally ended up getting fired for having his fingures in the till. It was a extreme case but I got a bill for damage that was there when we moved in and we got it refunded.

They have now been re managed by liberty living.

    Pros:
Clean & Tidy when you move in
People always on site should you fall ill, have security issues etc
    En Suite
One off service charge for bills (no dependent on rates of suppliers etc)
Everything provided, chair, table etc, people on call to fix appliances, fridges, freezers etc should they break (for free!)
No contract worries should someone move out (no joint tenancy agreement etc)
    Laundry services on site
    TV piped into your room
    Fire alarms
Close community and common rooms for people daunted by making friends.

    Cons:
    Smallish room
Dependent on management team (if they are dodgy it can be a pain)
    Internet can be slow
Possible to pay too much for utilities. (If rates drop, no chance of shopping around)
    Charges for laundry services
    Fire alarms
Slightly more expensive than rented accommodation
    No pets
    Noise pollution from neighboring flats.

I will be moving back into the liberty living for Third year.

    Hope this helps!

    Re: Unite Student Housing
Ive lived in multiple flats with Unite and in multiple locations. Here is the status in London

    Pros:
Clean & Tidy when you move in
    En Suite
    Laundry services on site

    Cons:
Water, electricity, internet are intermittent or dont work.
    Small Room for price
No management team on site, no customer service. No one is helpful.
Internet is slow and 10 times slower that the uk average.
Utilities are overpriced in comparison to other flats.
Charges for laundry services have increased.
    Fire alarms
Double the price of rented accommodation
    No pets
    Noise pollution from neighbouring flats.
Maintenance staff are ineffective and are just there for the call out charges.
Contract is a fixed term of 12 months
No refund for internet (which is vastly overpriced)
No community or effort to create one.
Buildings are 50% occupancy. Its half dead.

if anyone wants to see any of this first hand, get in touch and they can see it all for themselves.

Unite has terrible management. All they want is your money and they do nothing for it. The only good thing about some of their flats is the location- that's it. The staff could care less- they care more about their conversations with each other and updating their Facebook pages than actually doing their jobs. People complain everyday at the front desk where I live and it's a joke- no one does anything for anyone. I really regret living here. My advice: take your time and look at other places. There are so many other better deals out there and landlords who will treat you as if you are a paying customer.

I really wish I'd read this topic before I moved here - does anyone know where you can complain to? There is no means of doing it other than through the on-site staff which I don't want to do

Living in Unite accommodation almost killed me. I had a nightmare with a noisy neighbour that they just wouldn't deal with at all.

    Re: Unite Student Housing
I've lived in Unite hallls in Aberdeen and in Glasgow and I have to say that I thought they were really great...which is weird because it seems like Unite's quality varies greatly.

For me the staff are all pleasant and happy to help out (I moved flats and Unite made this extremely easy) , the rooms were always tidy and in comparision to other halls I've seen are bigger than , or big as , those rooms.

Ensuite is a godsend and weirdly had constant hotwater. Any problems that came up (e.g my flatmate flooded the kitchen once) required a quick phone call and somone would be round within an hour to sort it out, and you feel pretty secure as they have security staff on 24/7.

I guess sometimes there was quite a lot of fire alarms being set off , but no more so than any other halls.

Also my flat in Glasgow had a balcony which makes unite a God in my eyes.

Stay away from UNITE. I lived in STatioun Court in London. Bad experience...

-Really really expensive compared to what you get.
-Bad security - my bicycle was stolen
-Staff is really unhelpfull in solving problems for example regarding loud music etc
-heating is terrible, you have to push the heater button every 20 minutes

Good things: kitchen quite big, garrage for bicycles (althoungh unsafe), you get insurance for things in your room.

    Do not reccomend
