Experiences with these organisations (EVS)

I'm thinking of doing a 2-3 week mini-gap thing this summer (yes, I know it's rather late... but anyway) and have been scouring the web for something that is remotely affordable. I've come across:

http://www.unaexchange.org/
http://www.icye.org.uk/
http://www.yap-uk.org/
http://www.ivsgb.org.uk/
http://www.concordia-iye.org.uk/

They all seem to revolve around this "European Voluntary Service" programme (which I'm not entirely clear about). Has anyone had any experience with these? It seems that the cost of the whole trip would be ~£150+travel+insurance (and it seems that you can even get a grant for that from the British council...!), which seems ridiculously cheap compared to mainstream gap year programmes; I'm concerned whether there are hidden costs, if the organisations are legitimate, etc.

Thanks!

It's not these organisations you should be worried about - it's the ones which charge 1000s to volunteer for a month!

EVS is fully funded - return travel, language tuition, food & accommodation. You won't be out of pocket a penny.

The first one at least is a genuine charity, where the service and support is fantastic. Although I don't have experience of them all, I would still trust all of them as they mostly offer the same projects. Definitely in terms of EVS, the placements are a lot more personalised, flexible and usually more interesting, than the projects with a Gap Year company.

EVS is free.. They even give you pocket money. I've never heard of doing EVS through organisations like that though.. I was going to go, and my sender organisation was going to be my county council...

Check out the official webpage for "Youth", and do some reading about EVS. I'd recommend it!
