Dialects are not the same as languages. Hong Kong speaks Cantonese but it is still essentially Chinese.

Also, as far as I know the Hong Kong people objected to being taken over by China - they wanted to stay with Great Britain and before 1997 there was a mass migration out of Hong Kong into other western countries.
It was...but not anymore. People are moving back into Hong Kong...and many people from Mainland China are coming into Hong Kong likewise. People realized that holding a Chinese citizenship was better than holding a British citizenship.

    Mind your language, mate.
    the link above doesn't work.
Whatever Dalai said, the violence that created by the Tibet is the truth. you may find numerous pictures and videos on Chinese websites. the only thing I know is that foreign media never shows these stuff but CREATE some part of the photes that lead to a totally opposite way. there're proofs of the contrast of some photes.
you have your beliefs, me too.

Did the Chinese government apologize for the Tiananmen incident?
Likewise, did the Japanese government apologize for all the things that they did in the Second World War? I'm afraid not.

Oh...I forgot! Stop playing with your Geishas...it's really disgusting. :p:

Yeah, but one act that is wrong does not necessarily justify a similar one... What's wrong is wrong and full stop. However if you keep on insisting on something that we already know is wrong is a bit irritating from time to time

It is a debate. There is right or wrong in the world. Everybody's standard is different. When it comes to communist, he/she is polically incorrect; however when it comes to democrat, he/she is 'right'.

It is obvious that some people generally prefer a liberal government. The fact is shown by the number of immigrants to democratic countries from the communist countries.
Of course there are also some people who enjoy living under the communist rule.

That doesn't necessarily mean that people don't prefer communism. It can be a variety of reasons, eg. for university, for job opportunities, for business.
And most chinese people I know thats in britain isn't here for the liberal government, they are just here as students or here to make a living, once their business here is over, they usually move on to another country or go back home.

But if China is so wonderful why should they be here in the first place? If the communist government in China is so successful why don't they have these opportunities at home?

Because 1.3 billion people create alot of competition, so one is always looking to distinguish themselves in some way. For example, even in the UK, if I was interviewing for a job position, I'd look favourably to studying abroad, because not only has that person got extra language skills, but it also shows their independence and their ability to adapt.

Besides - the communist government in China is hardly communist...

1.I didn't say the government was wonderful.
2.People move about in this new age, British people go to america or australia for jobs, americans come to britain.
3.Considering the competition in chinese institutions are alot higher, no wonder people seek for jobs both outside and inside of the country.

Why do you have to go against the people of china if all you dislike is the government.

I have said and will always say that the chinese government is bad/corrupt call it what you like, just like any other form of government has it's dark side... but until they show me otherwise, I will keep on insisting, I do not support all of the decision taken by the government.

Putting this aside... what has this got to do with the people of china... I mean, it's like saying "all Americans are ********s because their President Bush is one too..." That is a judgement made upon no arguments whatsoever, I mean, justbecause you dislike their leader it doesn't mean that you should dislike the whole population, I mean, I personally know quite a few americans that are really nice and easy-going people, far from being Bush... Moreover, let's not also forget the fact that the election of Bush to presidency was a polemical one from the start, i.e. back in 2001 there was this huge talk about a coupe and all sorts of different stuff, that may just be Michael Moore trying to sell a few books, but I doubt he'd come up with such a nice story... and yes the world has seen what Bush is capable of... nothing... but that doesn't mean all american are like that.

Secondly, do you really think we have a choice as to who we want to govern us... I mean, really, you should know enough by now that the communist regime doesn't allow for other political opponents, meaning that it is communism yes or yes. So don't blame the people for letting them do what they do, they do because we don't have a choice of stopping what they do and in the case where we DO TRY to, well, you have probably witnessed what has/will happen in Tiananmen Square...

Xinhua is very very biased an unreliable. Reminds me of Soviet era propaganda.

Seroiusly, the people in China can't even access the NYTimes online or CNN. I can't imagine how life is going to be like in China.
    That's hilarious!"Oooohhhh...CNN told me blablablabla..."
