Re: The UCL accomodation thread
Can someone help me please
If i want to apply for a single catered room (most important factor= single room), how much should I say is my maximum weekly rent? If i put down £150 then I might not get the halls since they are around £160-£175.
But if i put down £200 as my maximum weekly rent, then I might end up in a really expensive single room, far from ucl, that is not the halls!!
(Also is en-suite worth it??
) THANKS!

Re: The UCL accomodation threadNo, no pets are allowed.(Original post by loochester)
I have a few questions
1) Is accomadation for the school of pharmacy separated from the rest of UCL accomadation
2) Are any pets allowed in accomadation (I have a snake)
3) How far away from the school of Pharmacy is the UCLU building/facilities etc? I plan on joining a lot of societies. -
Re: The UCL accomodation threadI did the application a few weeks ago, still haven't got a confirmation e-mail. You shouldn't expect an e-mail any time soon, the UCL accommodation team are absolutely terrible, if you don't hear back after a month, then get in touch with them.(Original post by kilojoule)
Hi has anyone received like a confirmation email from UCL after submitting their accommodation application? I submitted mine on Sunday, but still haven't received any email to confirm they have received my application

Re: The UCL accomodation thread
Hi! Can you tell me how do you pay for accommodation? Is it three times a year before each term or each week/month...?
Also, I will be (hopefully) staying in Inter. Halls and was wondering how well ´´the student kitchens´´ are equipped. I will not be coming back home for holidays, so is it possible to cook/prepare some decent meal there (I know it´s nothing much since Halls are catered, so - those of you who are also staying - how do you solve ´´the food situation´´ during term breaks...
)? Many thanks!

Re: The UCL accomodation threadNo, you're not guaranteed. You can't apply for accommodation as an insurance offer holder until you know fo sho that you're going to UCL.(Original post by Ari Ben Canaan)

Re: The UCL accomodation threadHey...so what did you put down as your maximum weekly amount?(Original post by flavb26)
hi! I'd be grateful if anyone could give some advice concerning what to choose between 150 and 200 as the maximum amount of money which I am ready to spend on accommodation. As I want both catered accommodation and living close to ucl, I have no other choice than having to spend about 160-170 pounds per week.
On the one hand I'm afraid if I will put 150 as maximum I will be given a place at Ifor Evans or any other hall, which are most likely to be quite far from ucl. On the other hand if I will put 200, taking into consideration that what I really want is 160-170 pounds (Canterbury Hall or International Hall), I will also have to take the risk of receiving an offer of 190 or even more than 200, because sometimes those from the accommodation office guess that we are flexible in terms of our budget. In other words, there's a noticeable difference between 170 and 200, and I couldn't afford spending more than 170 pounds on accommodation.
Im in a similar situation, Id rather have a single, (maybe) catered room which close to the Uni, so basically ifor evans or ramsay hall.
I dont know whether to put 150 or 200 as maximum, if i do £150 im gonna end up in a student house (not even a hall) probably really far away, and it'll be self catered probably
ahhhhh -
Re: The UCL accomodation threadThe student houses are halls, they're just given a different name as they aren't catered. Astor has long corridors just the same as Ramsay. Also unless you go intercollegiate, if you put catered then you have a 50/50 chance of ending up far away in Ifor - there are way more self catered halls that are super close to uni. I would say go self catered anyway, you will miss so many meals due to sleeping in/being out in the evening that catered won't be worth it.(Original post by plummango)

Also re. your earlier post - put UCL halls of residence first then intercollegiate second (as they are catered), and then put catered as your no.1 priority and around £175 as your price range. That will probably get you in Ramsay or Ifor if you really really want catered halls or possibly in an intercollegiate which are more expensive, but catered and almost all very close to uni.Last edited by dirtyoldriver; 04-05-2012 at 22:23. -

ehhh I would say no. The situation with being non-en suite is quite variable as particularly in the corridor accommodation they can get a bit gross, but the bonuses are that they are all cleaned regularly for you, and I don't know anyone who's ever had a real problem waiting for showers or anything. The main downside is just that after a big night out the toilets can be kind of questionable if a lot of people are using them. I'm in a pretty ideal situation in Schafer as I share 2 toilets and 1 shower between 5 people and they're rarely anything less than clean. Plus all the rooms have sinks.
So yeah, I'd say no to en suite as you save £40 of drinking/food money a week and don't have to clean your own bathroom

Oh thanks!! a lot!
Its not much problem with toilets, its more with the shower, having to carry clothes etc to the shower.
My mates brother went to shower and the other hall students took his clothes so he had to stay in there for the entire day lol -
Re: The UCL accomodation threadHahah to be fair that's his problem for not locking the door(Original post by plummango)

I just tend to do the walk there and back in a towel anyway.

Re: The UCL accomodation threadYou could put £135 then proximity as your priority. I think Astor is the only one that fits those criteria.(Original post by Borderline)
Why are people still asking which accomodation they should choose? Have people been leaving notes on their applications this year?
What do you think I should put as my price range if I want Astor? I could put £135, but I don't want to be in Max Rayne, I'd much rather be in one of the £150 rooms if I cannot get into Astor. Do you think it would be a good idea to put '£134+' / '£134-£200'?
) THANKS!
