That sounds pretty good to me then! I think I could get used to rolling out of bed 10 minutes before I'm due in a lecture :P x
I wouldn't, because it all changes if you plan on attending lectures in your second year..

In my flat it's 3 single rooms and 7 shared, plus the warden's room. The 3 single rooms were allocated to 2 Exchanges and a 20yr old. They say that people straight out of school are much more likely to get the shared rooms, and they try to keep the singles (in AT at least) for people who are a year or two older at least. Having said that, if someone who was 19,20,21 etc. wanted a shared room, I don't think they'd have a problem with that - always more people who want single than shared, so someone who wants shared makes the accomodation peoples lives easier!

Sounds a bit mean, doesn't it? As if you were already too old to socialise
So what does that mean for me? Because of the German school system I am 19 when I am straight out of school but I turn 20 two weeks before the term starts.
I wouldn't mind sharing a room but of course I would prefer a single room nonetheless. So am I more likely to get one? Yay (as long as I get an offer, though )

I think you'll get a single room preference.

Looking forward to seeing AT tomorrow

I really think UCL should make the accommodation brochure a bit better. Would be nice to see pictures of the rooms in the booklet, rather than the outside! Without lovely TSRers, we'd never know what they were like until it was too late!

I'm stuck with whether to choose self-catered or catered on the form. I'm a vegetarian and have heard the vegetarian option isn't great in catered halls, but I mean, how bad can it be? And what do people in catered halls do on the weekends without meals?

I'm tempted to go self-catered as I can cook pretty well and am sure I could live pretty cheaply, but I'd hate to share a room with anyone. Is it really likely that most people 19 and under get put in shared rooms? Because two of my friends went to UCL this year in self-catered and are both in single rooms, but neither put their most important factor as single room.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

True, and some accommodations don't even have pictures :p:

Yeah I hope it's a nice day tomorrow.

I'm vegetarian and decided to go Self Catered, since I'm not the world's most amazing cook, but I can make enough different things to have a fair bit of variety and eat relatively healthily. Also, I didn't want to risk being stuck with one token vegetarian option per meal, which I might not like - much rather cook something I know I'll like! Plus you can eat your meals whenever you feel like it, instead of having set meal times. Though on the downside there are times when you cba with making a meal/going down to Tesco and it would be nice to have someone cook for you! But I don't regret going SC at all.
Some of the Catered halls, I'm told, only have one veggie dish per meal, whereas others apparently have 3 different options, but I'm not sure which halls those would be.

As for shared - depends what halls you end up in (which you may be able to influence by writing a note at the side of the accom form asking the accommodation people if they could put you in a specific hall, if possible) Mine, for example (Arthur Tattershall) has far more shared rooms than single, so you'd be more likely to be in shared, whereas somewhere like Schafer or Langton is pretty much all single rooms.

Thanks for that. I think I will go self-catered, but my parents are adamant catered would be better.

Do you have to share a room then? If so, do you and your room-mate get along?

True, but I find it doubly annoying when there's a picture, but it's just of the front of the building. Most London terraced houses look the same, dammit!

It will be good! Are you just looking at AT, or is there anywhere else you're looking around? Above all, I want to see what the showers are like, as strange a priority as that may sound!

Yup, I'm sharing (well, not at the moment, since my roommate doesn't get back till late next week, so I'm enjoying keeping antisocial hours atm!) Yeah, we get along ok - we have next to nothing in common and don't socialise together outside the flat or anything, but we've never had any arguments about anything. Provided you treat each other as you'd want to be treated (i.e. being as quiet as possible if one has an early start and the other doesn't, or if one is coming back late when the other's already asleep, being relatively tidy...that kind of thing) it tends to work ok. Plus the fact it's about £30 p/w cheaper than single in the same house makes it worth it imo. And it will make me appreciate having my own room more next year!
Admittedly there are times when I wish I had my own room and wasn't sharing, but it really isn't as horrific as it seems initially!
And at least you never get lonely!

I'm looking at Campbell East, Schafer, Arthur Tattersall and John Tovell. Still undecided between those, but perhaps once I've seen all of them I'll have a clear mind on which one I prefer. :p:

Hench rooms with the huge windows in the 1st floor rooms only, sadly!
I do have a fireplace (obviously not usable) and an amazing view of the BT tower though, on the 3rd floor!

Are you looking around Campbell tomorrow? If you are and it isn't a hassle, I'd quite like to tag along if you're looking around before/after AT? Obviously I'd ask whoever's showing you (is it James S?) as well!

    Claire, who is your roommate?

Some of the shared rooms in AT are massive. I think it's Caroline who has a massive room, right?
