Re: Liber Question Time - Ask a LibertarianTough for them, I suppose. I was leader of the TSR Libertarian party for 2 years, was in it's very first intake of MP's (there were only two of us) and have been consistently pro-intervention the entire time. If the electorate have the wrong impression of us, it's certainly not because we've been deceptive.(Original post by internetguru)
Unfortunately voters tend not to be experts on this. I wouldn't call the real life ones Libertarians anyway they are just corrupt businessmen like the Koch Brothers trying to save themselves a quick buck. -
Re: Liber Question Time - Ask a Libertarian'Tired of our insistence on entering into war when unprovoked?'(Original post by Rhadamanthus)
If the main reason people voted for us is because of the anti-war stance then why would they not just vote for the Socialists or another equally anti-war party? There is something else at play, that's why, and it's because most of our voters identify with libertarian views on the economy too.
Quoted directly from the Libertarian manifesto during the last election. What is your response? -
Re: Liber Question Time - Ask a LibertarianThat we were provoked, that war was declared against us, and that it is the state's responsibility to act in accordance with the international treaties surrounding the punishment of terrorists and the prevention of genocide, in addition to defeating globally networked terror organisations who threaten civilians. In short, I disagree with our manifesto.(Original post by internetguru)

Re: Liber Question Time - Ask a LibertarianSo is it okay for the individual to practice eugenics with their own future children?(Original post by Keckers)
Individuals are free to have kids with who they want. Anything beyond that is social engineering by government and is a gross misuse of power.

Re: Liber Question Time - Ask a LibertarianI don't really like questions like this. It's like asking "So it is OK to cheat on your wife?" Well, no, it's not really. But that doesn't mean it should be illegal. People can do what they want.(Original post by tehFrance)

The waters become a big muddier if, for instance, two people aligned together purely because it made it more likely that their kid would be born with some odd genetic trait, in some strange display of sadism. That's literally never occured to me as a possibility before, though, so I haven't ever thought about the legal ramifications of such a thing... -

Re: Liber Question Time - Ask a Libertarian
Libertarians, are you prepared to sacrifice your libertarian principles in the real world for the sake of pragmatism? I'm an ardent minarchist/geo-libertarian, but I came to the conclusion 2-3 years ago that due to the sheer number of V.Is dependent on statist rent seeking libertarianism is all but impossible in the UK. In exasperation I've decided that if I can't beat them I'll join them, hence I'm casting my net into the government non-job sphere atm to see if its as good as everyone makes out. Ideologically libertarianism is the bees knees, but practically its no good in a society that has been seduced by the fools gold of socialism.

Re: Liber Question Time - Ask a Libertarian
I think a lot of libertarianism is piece-meal. You can liberalise labour laws without cutting welfare. You can introduce competition and a profit motive in schools without abolishing the NHS. You can improve the tax system enormously without necessarily lowering its take. All of these are sacrifices in a sense, but they're also real, practical difference in people's lives without them needing to suddenly become minarchists.
