From a Penguins fan? Oh the irony.

Least we have one of the two best players in the league and a nice city to play in...not a bunch of has-beens based in a ****hole famous for making poor quality American rust buckets.

Wait...being an American how do you even know what irony is?!

Two best players in the league?

Heard of Datsyuk?

Heard of Howard?

Heard of Zetterburg?

How many Norris Trophy winning D-men do Pittsburgh have? We have a 'has-been' with seven to his name, including last years, and he is in the running to get it again this year (and tie with Bobby Orr). I'll have more 'has-beens' like that cheers.

Nice city? You do realise that in the US Pittsburgh its know as S**tsburgh don't you? Its a steel producing region and thus is full of slag heaps and industrial wastelands that rival Detroit.

Wait being a Brit(?) have you even been to Pittsburgh? If you are indeed a Brit how did you choose Pittsburgh? Get into NHL a few years back when Crosby was the poster boy? How is that working out for you?

Penguins - A briefly successful team built on the back of draft picks that only long-term failure can provide.

Actually been a fan for a lot longer than the arrival of Crosby thanks.

Nice rant about the less important trophies you can get awarded there...would've made more of an impact if you could spell simple words properly though.

Oh, and Pittsburgh WAS a major steel producing city, and as a result wasn't a great place to live, but not anymore...not to mention it has been voted the nicest city in America a number of times by different organisations. Whereas Detroit still remains to be the same post-riot derelict wart on America.

Not to mention when you got it handed to you Crosby was out injured until he played injured because of determination...something your team lacks. Besides...it was a 234th draft pick that scored against you so you tell me how many first draft picks it takes?! Moron.

UK team: Bracknell Bees

Unlucky

Am a Guildford flames fan through and through... must admit I do love going over to the hive for local derby's against the bees as they always prove entertaining.
Panthers. :woo:

1. Datsyuk and Zetterberg are class acts and have shown how good the Red Wings' scouting system is. They are very different to Malkin & Crosby and are much more adept in the defensive end (hence they man marked those two in the two SCF appearances). Comparing the 4 isn't easy, they are all great players. I'm still not sold on Jimmy Howard, but I haven't seen much of him and he's not really had a fair crack at the playoffs yet.

2. If Letang stays fit (and keeps his head up) he'll be pretty close this year to the Norris. Let's also remember that the Norris goes to the all round D-man so of course real shut down D-men (who are equally as important) won't win that award.

3. Nice city? It's getting better. It's still a hole to some degree... Probably a decade ahead of Detroit in terms of redevelopment but both are on the way up... Both are passionate Hockey towns (even accounting for the fairweather *******s who are going to some games at Consol atm), we were still drawing pretty big crowds in the dark days.

4. Just because I'm from the UK doesn't mean I am a glory hunter. Remember when Dick Tarnstrom led the Pens with 54 points? I do. The seemingly endless prospect of recloation? I do. Part of supporting a team is supporting them through thick and thin. I picked up the pens after Lemieux's comeback (I was 9) and have supported ALL of the Pittsburgh teams, including the Pirates!

5. If you take a look at the Organisational depth that Ray Shero has built through the draft, guys like Despres are in WBS and have proven themselves at NHL level while young Samuelsson (Ulf's kid) are showing promise and show that Shero know's what he's doing. Yes we had high draft picks, but after years of turmoil and no salary cap without a sugar daddy to pay the big wagesdemanded by the elite, we were always in trouble. It is also worth mentioning that we traded up to get MAF. Yes, they've had high draft picks, but in a capped era, drafting well is more crucial and they've apparently done that. Detroit are always strong and are a threat, something I hope the Pens can maintain for years to come.

Last thing - Detroit are a well run organisation and if a lot of teams followed their model they would be more good teams and fewer Washington Capitals (they should be creaming their division with the talent they have). As for the two best players in the league at the moment, I'd go with Malkin and Lundqvist...

I saw the last period of their game against MK on New Years Day as I was in the area with friends for new year - i think i jinxed it!

Being from newcastle and a former vipers fan I remember the likes of Lobby, Mark Lee, Jez, Ben etc from when they were just starting out so it was good to see them playing again, and over the years i've met/socialised with a couple of the other guys on the team too. What a set up Guildford have, no wonder half of newcastle's alumni are down there!

Personally I don't really have a team than I support as such, but I follow teams where friends i've made over the years are playing. If I had to pick one it'd be Edinburgh, because some of my favourite hockey memories have been up there with them, even last season when they were losing EVERY game, something just felt so much more welcoming.

Nope dw you didn't jinx it, we were on a bad run at that point but it's all back on track now and we need 6 points from 6 games to win the league. Yeah we do seem to have all the Newcastle alumni down here but it just shows what great talent you guys had. Am still hoping Newcastle will get a team back soon even if they have to join the EPL, which as long as we get to keep all the brits you've given us over the years would be good lol.
You should try and get to a game at some point, all the leagues are so competitive this year and I fully agree that even when a team is loosing you should still support them no matter what  xx

Yeah, Newcastle won't make a comeback until there's a new rink in the city centre I don't think. Playing out of Whitley Bay just didn't work - too many fans saw it as too far to travel or for some who'd grown up watching the Wasps it was just plain blasphemy! I think they'd be viable at EPL with the right sort of set up but even if Newcastle don't make a comeback i'd like to see either Whitley or Billingham step up to EPL. Elite league just doesn't work up here, there isn't the money.

I've sworn blind I won't go to another Elite League game, too much bad blood there. It says a lot when the one person you get on with at an EIHL team is your ex boyfriend! Sheffield isn't too far so I might take some Steeldogs games in if I get a free weekend and the fixtures match.

That being said, nothing is gonna compare to having seen the Rangers and Penguins in Madison Square Garden!

haha don't worry we're the same this season... but it was such a tight league that this weekend just gone even telford had a 4 point weekend (they beat bison on saturday and then shut out mk on sunday  but we've clinched the league title and thats the main thing
but yeah should be a good game on Saturday, always love the local rivalry. you coming over to the spectrum then? am hoping that we get you guys in the playoffs too as they would be some epic games haha x

Well done on winning the league, it makes a change from the MK and Manchester dominance over the last few years. It has been tight this year, got to be one of the best seasons ever. No idea how Telford managed to shut out MK, last time i saw Telford at the Hive they lost 11-1 so to go and beat MK with a shut out takes some doing! I did go over to the spectrum last week, great atmosphere and a brilliant game, that no side deserved to lost tbh :P. Like you i hope we get you in the playoffs (if we get there!), could bring two of the best games of the season

Thanks, has been good to win the double this season :P now just got the playoffs to win to dominate the league this year haha.
Yeah, I got no idea how Telford managed it either, some of their results have been shocking this year then they go and get a four point weekend as well as shutting out mk!!! Just a shame its a case of too little too late as they've got no chance of making the playoffs :frown:
Last weekends game was good but you did deserve to win imo... we just didnt seem to try whereas you gave everything you've got. Not sure how we got all the penalties for the fight when it was by your bench though but oh well lol.
Hope we get you guys too.. will come over to the hive if we do as like you said, it will be 2 of the best games of the season  Good luck this weekend and hopefully see you in the playoffs :P xx

Tbh i don't know how you ended up with all those penalties either! Still it added to the excitement .Unfortunately we won't have you in the playoffs as we lost away at Sheffield last night and to Swindon tonight, meaning Peterborough take the last playoff spot :frown:. Shame as they would have been two great games and i was looking forward to another trip to the Spectrum. Good luck for the playoffs, hopefully your good form continues in them

You should destroy Peterborough, even though they finished above us, we would have given you a better game, although if we played like we did on Saturday you would also destroy us! Unfortunately I can't make it up to Coventry :frown:, but will defo try to go next year!

I support the Capitals and whoever is playing Fife!

Don't really follow the NHL, would say the Rangers are my favourite though

Am hoping we destroy Peterborough too.. our record is 5 and 1 against them so we stand a good chance. You would have given us a better game though 100% even if you played like c*** the local rivalry would make up for it lol.
Aww shame you're not coming up :frown: just 2 weeks to go now and i can't wait lol x
