Re: Ice Hockey(Original post by unikq)
lol, maklin
wings suck.
ducks will be 2009 champs
you really need to stop.
Malkin really needed to step up in this series and it took 6 games for him to do something. The Pens played with no urgency in the 3rd period and were outplayed by a more experienced, more creative Red Wings team.
After all that, i still hate the Wings with a passion.

Re: Ice Hockey
if you think seeing hockey fans in the uk is surprising, than you must be amazed that i'm from hk (7000 miles from canada!) and i'm one of the biggest hockey fan there is, lol.
anyways, my family is from canada so its not like i randomly picked up the sport. i'm going back this summer to stock up on some merchandise
...it's too bad the canucks weren't even close to winning the cup this season...i would love to see it!
and congrats to the wings for winning the cup. they deserved it, and it goes to show that the west owns the east yet again. pens played well, but just didn't have the experience that the wings have, but they'll win soon enough. -
Re: Ice HockeyI doubt it.(Original post by unikq)
i think most people here play, seeing hockey isn't very popular in UK, you wouldn't really talk/know about it unless you play...
The majority of people over here don't play because we don't have the culture for it. You are much more likely to find general fans. -
Re: Ice Hockeyreally? i don't know a single fan who isn't a player....(Original post by inferiormadbeing)
I doubt it.

it is annoying that we don't have the culture for it. driving for miles at 12:00am ice time to get to a ****ty rundown rink packed full of chavs

Re: Ice HockeyYeah there's always going to be more people who watch than play over here.(Original post by unikq)

Franpgb - you're coming to Sheffield this september aren't you?
Go and watch the Steelers. Linkage.
There are several UK leagues, the top being the elite league. Linkage 2
Games are Saturday or Sunday nights, itll take you 20mins half an hour on the tram from uni. They ran £5 tickets last season which means a night of entertainment for less than a tenner! -
Re: Ice Hockeyatm, none. just do rec scrims,(Original post by tom_91)
Out of interest, what team do you play for?
and off ice ( street, and did a bit of skater) ) - im in london
by the "91" in your name, i presume that you were born in '91? in which case, if you haven't done so already, go play in a junior team quick. there are a couple of really good ones around the country, i started hockey quite late, and didn't want to embarass myself by being the crappest and oldest on the junior teams, so had to start out with skater hockey, then start rec ice
will be going to uni in london next year, so hopefully IC Devils will be my team if i get the grades, and possibly ULU Dragons.

Re: Ice HockeyWelcome to Hockey!(Original post by franpgb)
Hey,
Interested in it but have never seen it etc. So there's a UK League or something? Or what? I don't know anything about it but would like to know more please
I'd say, watch some NHL games, I don't have a clue about the UK League, didn't even know it existed till someone on here told me
. You can watch short clips of NHL games on YouTube, and they are always exciting and fun to watch. (Go Ducks Obviously
)
But IMO, the best way to get to know a sport is by playing it. Buy yourself a pair of entry level hockey boots (not more than about 50GBP), go to the rink, learn to skate, find a local rec team, and train.
it's a long process, but I'm sure everyone here will agree that it's well worth it. -
Re: Ice HockeyClose.. I was born in 90!(Original post by unikq)

The 91 is named after Mr Federov, my idol. -
Re: Ice HockeyThree twenty minute periods. Wiki explains more(Original post by franpgb)
Still, £11 is pretty cheap. How long are ice hockey matches, and are there two halves, or 4 quarters of time, if you get me?
Who do you support..Sheffield Steelers?
I don't support sheffield nope, I am from Durham so my nearest team is the Newcastle Vipers. Linkage
£11 is certainly not expensive, especially compared to football tickets. Steelers get around 3000 people for their home games if I remember correctly.
