try this http://youtube.com/watch?v=8jvX_yMxc-8 i find it a really bad song, but it is catchy and it helped me with my german alphabet

http://youtube.com/user/DieLiebeZumDetail
this guy has loads of songs and i think he even has an interview - his german is extremely clear and should give you a good confidence boost.

another german singer

http://youtube.com/user/christianvenusmusik
and another one

http://youtube.com/user/Attackeroyal
and another one (don't be scared by the crossdressing)

that's all i know. i'm not a big fan of rock or metal music (in any language) so i don't think there is a lot in this selection. - the last guy might have some, but i haven't listened to an of his stuff properly.

If your doing the aqa exam then this website may come in use:

http://www.school-portal.co.uk/GroupHomepage.asp?GroupID=124180

It allows you to download the audio files for the listening tests. I find it helpful if you read off the transcripts at the same time which you can get from:

http://www.aqa.org.uk/qual/gcse/germ_a_assess.php

Then you can get to know how words are pronounced in German and it prepares you for the exam at the same time, as the vocabulary is what you need for the exam

the songs from ich+ich are quite nice too cause he doesn't sing too fast http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=bn4mpwSNVLI

the fanta 4 s are cool and if u finally understand them you ll love the text http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=MUXYVhznOik

and xavier naidoo is something if u don't feel too god, so u can even practise then^^
http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=nj8td0WxFi4 he starts in english but after a minute or so he continues in german
I too am awful at listening! I got a D in higher mock and a C in Foundation mock.

It is definitely the hardest part of German.

Tbh I think you should have done the foundation, you can still get an A*, I think.

i have heard (correct me if i'm wrong though) that you can only get an A at max - but that is still extremely good. but the thing is with that, some schools don't offer it - you either do foundation everything or higher everything.

i actually got a worse score on my foundation mock when they were deciding what we were going to be entered for - i got an E at foundation and then a D at higher :s-smilie:

That is totally unhelpful and not even true.
OP Ignore this, you still have enough time to get plenty of practice before the exams. If you are doing really well in the other sections the language isn't the problem, you just need a bit more practice.

Oh?

http://www.aqa.org.uk/qual/pdf/AQA-3661-UMS-07.PDF

"A* 320-360"

59+90+90+90 = 329

59 being the max mark for a foundation component.

Or is my maths wrong?

i think that's going a tad bit far. they were trying to help, and the OP might like this idea - we're not all cut out for the listening exam

Why does that mean the OP should have done the foundation? She is obviously good at the language to be getting As in the other parts, it's just practice she is lacking. It's too late to change now anyway, so it is just causing unnecessary worry. Also I would think it is easier to bring the listening up to scratch than to get nearly 100% on every component.

I find reading and listening the easiest, I think that's because my strength in german is my vocabulary and I am rubbish with grammar.XD

The way I "revise" for it is to learn the vocabs the examination board requires you to know and learning others from the net/books and etc. Listening to german news or other german things.
Learn some set phrases too because in the exam, even if you don't catch a few words, you may still instantly recognise what the speaker is saying through the set phrases you have learnt., it really works! Like last in my mock, I got 72/90 for listening and this time round I got a 88/90.

I hope this helps!

I never said it would be beneficial for her to do foundation. I will be doing higher for all parts, despite being terrible at listening, purely because I do not want my marks being limited in any way.

All I was refuting was your comment that it was not possible to get an A* with a foundation component, which is false - you can.

edit: and it isn't too late to change. But it would incur a fee.

you cant get higher than a C if you do foundation.

btw.

I think that only applies if you do all 4 components at foundation level.

And I agree, you can certainly get an A* overall if you did a foundation component but 3 higher tiers(my friend did that and she got an A*), it kind of works like this:

number of foundation tiers out of the 4 components - highest possible mark:
4 - C
3 - B
2 - A
1 - A*
0 - A*

Oh yeah, about german music, some of my friends recommended these german artists , I haven't had the chance to hear their songs yet but I hope this might be some kind of help:
[copied & pasted these names from msn, so if there are spelling errors, please don't shoot me.XD):
Nena
Rammstein
LaFee
Yvonne Catterfeld
Annett Louisan
Udo Jürgens

Hope that helps.

Hey, you just need to keep listening to lots of German to get in the right frame of mind and get used to hearing the accent. Websites where you can download/stream radio and news are good as is listening to music - however, I personally find this quite hard as the go so fast and don't always speak as you would in an exam.

One last tip would be to just look through your DVD collection and see which ones have German audio you can put on and watch films in German. I find this helps as you know what is going on anyway (and if it's a film you know really well then you know pretty much what is being said) so it makes it much easier to pick up and understand the German. Also, just hearing so much of it really gets it into your head and you pick up a lot without really realising.

In the exam, read the question through thoroughly, try and decide what possible answers there could be or key words to look out for (a place, a name etc). If you already know what you're listening for it becomes a lot easier.
I think what is it with German is the varying degrees of accents and that they can speak quite fast. I agree though- immerse yourself in as much as you can. I started listening to Rammstein at GCSE and now I listen to a lot of German bands. I would also recommend Unheilig.

One of my friends told me recently that it helps if you listen to German a few hours before an exam because your brain gets into that frame of mind.

you guys could also watch the german news. it's easy to understand because you see the pictures with it and you can pic up some nice formal words. the ard is like the bbc so their news reports are accurate and well done and they are all online. you just have to follow the link http://www.tagesschau.de/ klick on nachrichten and choose "letzte sendung" from the multimediabox on the left hand side

Its not unhelpful
Its an option, and before calling something false please get the facts right. The only reason why I offered that as an option is because I am doing one foundation and still able to gain an A* (thanks ABC).

Nineabbey, I'm not sure whether this is true but in my case, we are allowed to be entered for some higher some foundation. It wouldn't make sense if you were good at 2 parts of the exam and bad at the rest, the school could just split it between foundation and higher.

OP said she begged her teacher to let her do higher, she obviously doesn't want to so foundation even if she could get A* with it, therefore it is unhelpful to tell her you thing she should have. If she can get As in the other sections she is capable of doing it in the listening with a bit of practice too, so there is no need to change to foundation. At the same time, if she is only getting As in the other sections she couldn't get an A* doing the foundation listening.
