Depends what you're after. You could try working in a care/nursing home, working with disabled adults/kids, try shadowing at a hospital. Generally its quite difficult to get work experience thats practical at hospitals, especially under 18.

When we were doing work experience, if we wanted to do medical experience we couldn't organise it ourselves. Our careers adviser passed our details onto a company called Charter who sorted us all out with placements in hospitals. Hospitals, clinics etc..simply wouldn't take us if we asked individually, it had to go through Charter!
In saying that, I stated I would like Paediatric but ended up in ENT, so the reason the centre gave you is BS!

Yep it is very hard to get into hospitals for work experiance... I wanted to be a midwife and there was such a long procress that I didn't bother and I don't think they would have let me anyway... you could maybe try like a nursing home or a residential home or a hospice as they will all have paitents and doctors! Good luck!

I found it SO difficult to get work experience. You may get about a weeks worth of experience in the summer if you write a letter to the hospital NOW.
Otherwise, I did work experience at a residential home, worked with autistic children long term rather than the odd week.
Universities understand and acknowledge the fact that it is difficult to get work experience.
    Hope this helps.
