I've never been thankful that York started late until now.

...I've picked up glandular fever; with eight weeks still to go I'm counting my blessings that I'll have time to recover!!

    First name: Jess

Course: I'm at York in my final year, doing a Music Degree, after leaving school in 2005 and taking a gap year.

Fave music: Read above ^ and you can probably guess I love most music! But if you have to know any 'popular' bands, then, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Motley Crue.. general classic rock/power metal.

Oh, and I'm studying Opera, so def. that!

Fave film: The Princess Bride - it's wacky.

Fave drink: Yorkshire Tea, York water tastes gooood.

    Fave food: Yorkshire puddings! (Seriously)

Fave book: Bit odd, but I love the Narnia books - mainly because of the imagery and unicorns

    Age: 21

*School you went to* - Lincoln Minster School in Lincolnshire

    *York-specific questions*

    *Why do you love/hate ducks?*

I love ducks because of the way they walk - or waddle, I should say. They're nice n' friendly here in York, and the duckings are always very cute. I love it when they cheep. The geese are nasty sods though..

Why do you wear women's underwear?

I just bought some cheapo black ones from Primarni* recently..

Societies - I'm already on the committee for the Music Society as Press and Publicity Officer, and a member of Opera Society. That's it!

Operasoc's still active? Julia forced me to sign up and I'm on the mailing list, but I never receive anything so I assumed it had died!

How long ago was that?? Wow!

Well, Fran Geach and Hannah Witcomb took over from Julia last year, as Jules didn't want too much work for third year. They put on a production of Britten's The Little Sweep and Weil's Down in the Valley last term. They've been doing various fund raising for the charity Jessie's Fund - so they've been around a fair bit

If you're still interested you could join up again next year? There's a load of new members of all varying talents on board.

It was probably the second year, when I was still in York! I don't think I'll have much time left spare in my final year so I'll probably not sign up up again (and to be honest the only reason I signed up was because of the combined efforts of Julia and Dave at Freshers' fair :P)

Indeed - just had a look at all the modules and things again!

Just having a minor panic about finance atm, trying to make sure I have a job over Xmas.. it's difficult trying to find one in London grr.

Also hoping I get the accomodation I want (Derwent/Vanbrugh). Ooh how exciting

It's tricky trying to find work here, too. I'm on a gap year and got back from being away at the beginning of August - fat chance of finding a summer job!! With term finishing on 19 Dec I don't think there's that much chance at Xmas either - don't really want to work during term, but if needs must...

I've got fingers crossed for the same things. Derwent was my first choice, Vanbrugh my second...

Nice one What will you be studying?

As for jobs, TrishS and lazzyfuzzylou, when you get to Uni, try signing up with Unijobs - if you want a part time during term time

MA Medieval English. I had to confirm my financial condition which I couldn't do until after I found out if I had funding or not, which apparently they hadn't realised. Then they managed to lose my results, so my academic condition hadn't ben met either as far as they were concerned. Not a great start, but university administration is universally bad and I know the department itself is lovely, so I'm not too concerned.

Oh yeah, I meant to ask about that! What sort of opportunities does it usually provide?

Also that's a relief Ygraine! (hey btw - I am in the LDR soc as well )

Also Trish - Derwent was my 1st, and Vanbrugh my 2nd - snap! (Goodricke was my third..)

It is indeed. Although if I don't get into accommodation because of their incompetance I shall be less than happy, so fingers crossed.

I've only just joined the LDR soc and that's definitely the part I'm looking forward to least about going to York. Where is your other half?

Aha well. I joined the soc back in March when I thought I'd be going to Edinburgh University.. and he'd be going to Nottingham.. but then we both changed our minds and put York as our firm soooo I joined the soc in error, although he did go away for a month and a bit earlier in the summer, with no contact, so I needed it then.

So basically we are both coming to York.. to do the same course. And have applied for the same accomodation. Which will be strange.. but nice hopefully. We aren't like those weird clingy couples anyway, we both have seperate friends and interests, so hopefully that continues.

    @Ygraine

Glad you got things sorted. I'm extremely worried about the accomodation as well. Will wait a week before I start pestering them . Are you applying to Wentworth for accomodation, I've applied to only Wentworth.

Is it mandatory to join a LDR society if you're in an LDR? lol, what exactly do they do in LDR societies? Since I'm going to be in an extremely LDR . Apologies for the OT.
