I personally don't think pennying and other activities are particularly contemptible, and certainly not worth punitive action by colleges, nor does it ruin the night for anyone else. Please stop your sanctimonious harping on about what other people choose to do their own bodies too, we're all intelligent enough to realise that alcohol is bad for you, and it's annoying to have someone condescendingly shake their finger at you.


I don't think pennying was what the Solemn Wanderer (and others who share his views) are talking about. All he was saying is that if people seriously misbehave in a formal hall they ought to be punished for it. Heavy drinking, pennying and a bit of mischief is one thing. Drinking so much you vomit in the hall, or end up doing damage to the property of the college you're in, or completely disrupt the formal halls of other people, is a completely different thing.
