Isn't GRP: Glass Reinforced Plastic?

So it is fibreglass with a plastic core rather than a resin core or something?

Either way, GRP is better in many ways for building stuff. But it is more expensive.

Seems GRP can be taken to be Glass reinforced plastic or Glass reinforced polyester. Fibreglass can be taken to be a fairly weak material made from extremely fine fibres of glass or GRP. Potato Potato, Tomato, Tomato.

Yes, GRP is Glass Reinforced Plastic. Resins are polymers are plastics. Fibreglass on it's own has pretty limited use, mainly insulation. To be useful it has to be in a composite of some sort, which is generally a plastic (hence the name) but it can be other things. I can't think of a use for pure fibreglass on a car, or indeed anything other than insulation.

Polyester is a plastic! Technically the fibres alone are glass fibres, not fibreglass, which in most contexts is taken to mean GRP.

I think this is rather funny. Your all banging on to this girl because she wants a body kit and a spray in pink, calling it "chav" when your all really being a bunch of ******* and not helping her in any way, slaggin her ect... some forum... i bet half of you "geeks" have built a custome compture with as many neons, silent fans and DD3 ram that the alien moulded case can house.

hun, the way to get it cheaper is to take the car to a college or uni where the students are practising spraying ect. The job will be just as good as a garage if not better because if they mess up, they have to do it again... your talking £300 for a full respray. if you want a kit  go for it - theres enough of us with body kits who attend uni and dont live in councle houses - i attualy live in a pent house down city quay - but because i have a modded car, im a dick ha... listen to yourselfs. nothing to be ashamed of. rest of you can ride on it... get back on your mopeds and public transport, and well travel by "Snowplow".

sorry to make my 1st post a harsh one, but lets play fare befor we start throwing generalisations around eh.

oh and on about body kits... avoid Hybridaero, Duraflex or flex fiber - dont get a body kit off ebay and spend more than £500 - unless you can fiberglass yourself, the fitting price along to get these cheap kits to sit nicely will set you back an easy £1000 alone... polyurethane is definetly the way forward if you can afford it... Unlike fiberglass, polyurethane will not break if you clip the curb. Polyurethane is more expensive, heavier and alot harder to fix if it cracks but then again, the fitting is so much easier, better & cheaper and it doesnt crack nearly as easily - its stock standard (the same metirial that the factory bumper is made of when the car is new)

I do agree though, spraying a car limits your chance of selling the car later on due to a limited people wanting to buy it in pink, even as you said yourself, you want to mod the car yourself - so do the rest of the modders .

If your gunna get a small car, and mod it, I wouldn't jump in straight away, look around and see if theres a modded car on sale that you can buy for quiet cheap and then spray it - your only gunna loose the spray money this way. Ive had 2 saxo's and a punto, all modified. Given, the punto was just a run around car, but the 2 saxos were more loved cars... i bought them ready modified and they were really nice cars... I noticed some one banging on about "bore exhausts" - well to keep your immisions down for mot's ext, get thinner exhaust pipes. I like the look of bore exhaust when they are done right, but im not keen on the overpowering noise, or the £40 end boxes that you can pick up from halfords and weld on.

My advice would be, If you've got a few grand to spend, buy a modded car thats tastefully modded with no engine mods bar say an induction kit, or forget the mods and get a car that is a little more less hastle to keep in form.
Or
If you have a decent amount, (my 2.0 hyundai coupe project, with body kit, 18" alloys and a midnight blue spray is costing around £8,000) then selling the car shouldn't be of any matter. I dont plan to sell for a good 5 years minimum & ill worry about that when it comes.
If you can afford a sum of money of this mark then you wont devalue the car like you may if you spend 2k on a car and 2k modding out the whole car just because a poorer job will be done with poorer products.

the advice id give you is spend like £2k on a car and £700+£300 on a kit and fitting OR spraying a car with a kit on it already - still making the car unique and your own - i'd personally not spray the car pink but im a guy, there are lots of seriously tastefull colours that will not devalue the car, but spraying it/fitting a kit wont increase the value so in the long run you will be "loosing" money - my saxo 60k miles 2002 was £3000 - it would be worth about £2000 standard - but the kit, alloys, sound system ect cost about £2000 make the car valued at £4000... so an overall loss of £1000 to the guy i bought it off, making the standard car value £1000 rather than £2000.

I know this will have no effect on your desition what is totally understandable, im just disecting some of the jip some people have been giving you and turning it into realistic advice.
Hope that helps a little haha...

think i can hear the 77A coming for the rest of you with you day savers ticket  dont all pile into the back now eh ha!

J

If you want a pink car your better off havent it wraped... its just like a bit sticker and you can the whole car wraped in any colour you want..... it would cost around £1500 to have a car wrapped
about 7k for a proper job depending on the paint used.

Lowering a car helps handlng, as it reduced the ammount of air going under the car giving more grip.

If you replace bits with a carbon fibre bodykit, you will save wieght.

What weighs more? Plastic + metal or Carbon Fibre

lowering a car reduces the cars centre of gravity, that is what improves the way a car handles, not the amount of air going under the car, its a ka not a le mans car with a rear diffuser, know what your talking about before you start filling everyone's head with ****

Anyone know how much it would cost to respray just the roof of Mini?

Currently it has a Union Jack painted on it. Some bloody idiot keyed it thinking of just repainting it to a solid colour of either white or black.

Can't believe someone would deface their own country symbol.

Also almost going to trade this car in.. wondering how much would get knocked off from the price if I just left it.

lowering a car can only some times helps with the way the car handles, but depending how much you lower by, depends on the problems you will get E.G. sump hitting the ground, changing angle the wheels sit at, unless your going to pay hunders out, to have a lowered car set up right there isnt really no point of doing as it will just end in more problems other wise
