    reapplication for maths enquiry
Has anyone been through the process of reapplication to oxbridge for maths? Currently I have offers from Imperial and Warwick and I do not want to lose them. I have wrote a letter to these universites telling them to defer my entry. But what concerns me is what am I suppose to do now or later in order to reapply to oxbridge as in am I still required to put a first choice university by early May? Will this then affect my reapplication process then? I need some help here...

You cannot defer and reapply. To reapply you must decline all your current offers.

If the OP can't work this out from the plethora of information on this site and the UCAS website he probably ought to reassess whether he is likely to be accepted for an Oxbridge maths degree. There are at least two threads a week asking about deferring while re-applying.

Give the guy a break he's only made 2 posts and is probably new to the site.

I got rejected from Oxbridge, go Imperial instead. Why waste a year when Imperial is literally as good?

Imperial and Warwick are both top places and probably land you with similar job prospects.

Well, who says he'll be wasting a year? I'm in a similiar position to the OP (got a Warwick maths offer, am taking a year out to go for Oxbridge, however I didn't apply to Oxford or Cambridge first time round), and I believe that taking a year out will be a good move even if I end up getting rejected from Oxbridge - I reckon I'll be able to get a lot out of a year away from full-time academic study.

You CANNOT defer and reapply. If not everyone would do it. If you want to reapply you must decline all of your current offers and entirely withdraw from the UCAS system. You may also wish to contact specific colleges, as IIRC taking a gap year when wanting to study maths in particular is usually considered detrimental.

There are exceptions to the rule, though. Queens' College Cambridge actively encourage gap years for maths applicants, and the maths fellows at King's told me they were basically neutral regarding post A-level applications.

What did I say? I said to contact specific colleges and that usually wasnt looked upon all that favourably. I didn't suggest there was some sort of blanket ban.

I know you didn't - sorry, that post came across wrongly. It wasn't targeted at what you'd said, it was elaborating on it by mentioning two cases that I'm aware of for the OP's benefit.

I only hope the OP takes more care over his written English in his communications with universities than he has on this website.
