    Kings ask for contact details
I think you have to fill in some form for Nottingham but I'm not sure on that
There may be a few more but not many medical schools at all ask for proof

Thanks, I'm particularly applying for Newcastle/Durham. Just one of my placements has since changed management (care home) and I'm not entirely sure if they've kept my records. Mightn't be worth mentioning it if I need to provide proof and can't.

Newcastle/Durham definitely do not ask for proof

Re: Do you need proof for medicine work experience?
    (Original post by ViceVersa)
Some medical schools ask for evidence/proof, others do not. Proof is usually by showing a certificate of some sort that you can ask the employers for, even if done abroad an e-mail or something can be requested. Either way as long as you're not lying it shouldn't be a problem. If they don't ask for proof the interview usually determines the liars from those who aren't.

Yes, work experience in foreign countries is very accepted.
Which medical schools ask for proof?

Why does it matter you shouldn't be lying anyway.

Getting my proof for my hospital and GP work experiences shouldn't be a problem.

Getting it for my care home will be difficult, as the manager who brought me on is no longer there. I have lost his email address too!

    Hospital work experience
    Hi there,
if I were to ring up some local hospitals asking to arrange some work experience would I be put on a waiting list?
How long approximately would I have to wait to start my placement?

Depends entirely on the hospital. Best thing is to ring up and ask.

I'm so worried that I don't have enough work experience for medicine but despite how hard I look I can't seem to be successful in getting another work experience placement. So is this enough extra curricular stuff & should I mention them all on my PS?

    - Dorothy Perkins (2 weeks)
    - Hospital (1 week)
    - Oxfam charity shop (2 weeks)
    - Soup kitchen for homeless people (1 day)
    - Fund rasing for Syria (a few days)
    - SAMDA (a few days)
    - Mentoring year 8 G&T students (a few days)
    - helping out on open days & even teaching a psychology lesson for new AS students (a few days)

It is more than enough. Remember that it is not how much work experience you have done that counts, but what you have learnt from your experiences. You need to be able to reflect on your experiences and relate them. What skills did you see and learn and why are they important to medicine? What qualities does one need to be a good doctor etc? The impact of your personal statement content will be from this quality of time spent in your placements rather than the quantity of them itself.

I think this is where I post as it is work......

Anyway, I'm applying to work as a tutor at explorelearning study centre where I will help younger children (aged 5 to 14) with there English and maths. My teacher was saying to apply for a job somewhere else as it will look better on my personal statement due to the fact that I already work with children as a volunteer at an adventure centre for disabled children. She was advising me to work in a pharmacy as I will experience primary care and pharamaceuticals. I can see her point but the main thing is that there are NO jobs in a pharmacies nearby. The studycentre is nearer and they are recruiting people. I dont' really want to waste time travelling when next year is such an important year.

My teacher then said that if went for the study centre job I would give off the impression that I want to go into paediatrics. I like working with children but I don't think I want to specialise medically in that field.

I will be doing different things if I was to take the job in the study centre as I will be teaching there whilst I volunteer as a playworker. I don't know I'm goind round in circles! :dontknow:

Could someone give me some advice in this?

    Please? :please:

You seem to be getting very worried about a very minor point. The majority of people find it very difficult to get even a weeks worth of shadowing, never mind a job! Having experience of working with children won't give off the impression you want to do paediatrics...no more so than working in a care home indicates you want to do medicine for the elderly

Working in a pharmacy probably won't give you much of an insight into primary care, GP/District nurse shadowing would be far better for that. Do what you want to do, not what you feel you should do

Probably the job at the Studycentre. I might do some work experence in a pharmacy if I have time to though. I looked at the TSR wiki about work-experience and it does look quite useful as I'm having pretty bad luck with GP's right now.

    Thank you!

St johns ambulance first aid courses
    Hey guys,

I'm doing an essential first aids course next week for all ages with St Johns Ambulance and I was just wondering what do they make you do and how do they assess you? Also how do you do practical things (n pairs etc)?

    Thank you

    -1 week at GP
    -1 week at a pharmacy
    -1 week in A&E
-2 days in hospital (general medicine)
-2 months voluntary work over summer
    -2 1/2 years Oxfam work

    be what they're looking for?
