don't know about your field, but conversion courses are sometimes approved by related councils to show that it meets appropriate standards (psychology conversion courses have to be approved by the bps, teaching conversion courses have to be approved by the tta, law conversion courses have to be approved by the law society (?) etc). these approved courses are usually acknowledged as being appropriate/required for further postgrad study too.

conversion courses are for people who want to change careers or study a different subject. however you need a pre-requisite. someone with a maths degree can do a conversion course in computer science or economics.

i was going to do a conversion course in comp science. bristol/york/imperial/birmingham/bath etc do them . prospectus.ac.uk is a good source for information to find about different courses.

with comp science you just need evidence of numeracy then you can go straight on to the MSC. infact some of them dont even require you to have a degree in a numerate subject. i remember Bristol just asking for maths up to A level. while others such a york just want some evidence of programming ability. you need to look on websites.
