What A-Levels do you find the most

THIS IS A MULTIPLE CHOICE POLL SO TICK AS MANY OPTIONS THAT APPLY TO YOU.

difficult?

Further Maths is challenging in some topics. Chemistry can be really demanding at times especially with so many organic reactions and mechanisms to learn. If you study Physics it gets more mathematical at A-Level and without a good understanding of maths people stuggle to get a good grade. Economics you can not get a top grade unless you keep up with current affairs and read the Economist and Financial Times. Languages can be challenging too especially if it is not your mother tongue. The rest of the subjects them seem straightforward. Psychology, Sociology and the likes are not too challenging compared to other subjects like maths or physics. If you look at past paper questions for psychology and sociology, you can achieve a pass by having a all night cramming session.

In recent articles Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths, Economics, History, English and Modern Foreign Languages were regarded as the more academic and challenging subjects. There is also now a trend of Psychology, Media studies and Information Communication Technology becoming more popular every year for AS Level choices. There are less students studying for AS and A-Levels in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and other sciences and languages such as French and German.

So the hard sciences and languages are the more difficult and challenging subjects?

Why isn't Biology on that list? Biology is my most difficult A-level subject by far and i find sciences much harder than languages and English (although i don't actually do a language A-level).

Biology is there now, I was typing too fast.

I find Physics practicals really unpredictable they use such awakward styles of questiosn and the way it is worded is even more annoying, it is totally different to Gcse physics ahhh those were wonderful questions.

Languages are difficult to begin with, takes ages to get to gripswith the basics and the feminine, mascualine and those different ways of pronnouncing words letters etc....

Ahh, y'see i'm the opposite of you. I loved languages and was naturally good at picking up new words, learning grammar etc, but physics just went straight over my head. I am talking about GCSE though, not A-level. I don't do either physics or a language...

I did German at GCSE I found is piss easy it was so easy out of 300 marks I ended up with 270+. It was a half course - short course it was aimed at people not wanting to take the full gcse or avoid the language.

Distinction, Merit, Pass and Fail were the available grades, it was with WJEC not the english examboards - the only exmaboard to offer those short courses.

I achieved a DISTINCTION. I really should have taken the GCSE in German, but the stupid timetable rules at school meant You either studied a language to FULL GCSE or a Technology or and a short course in the one youwere not doing a FULL GCSE in.

I thought Electronic Products OCR would be more relevant, but it was not. The whole of it focused on the project and there was not much I gained out of the course. I wish I had chosen the lanugage to full gcse.

Languages are cool. I did French and German GCSE and sort of regret not taking French to A-level. Saying that, nobody got above a C for AS in my year, even though some of them got A*s for GCSE. I didn't do a technology for GCSE - couldn't be arsed with the big coursework project (i did two languages instead).

I would have taken a language had it been something like Spanish but it was not avaialble on the timetable. :frown:

My friend in Year 10 started doing French and Spanish GCSE this year and hated Spanish so she dropped it within a few weeks.

Pyschology relys a lot on english as the way you phrase the studies and theories in essays can change your grade by 2 boundries.
It isn't all just learning studies either you have to use your head and analyse and evaluate everything.

I find media easier but that doesn't mean that it is an easy course. Loads of regulations to learn, and histories of companies etc. The exam questions are phrased in confusing ways at times as well.
You need to be confident in essay writing for both, I found a lot of people who aren't confident in english struggled in Psych and Media.

You can learn them out of the textbook most of it anyway. Essay writing is difficult at times, but generally you can write something and still get a pass.

Where as in Maths, if you have not completed any exercises in the module book or attempted any past questions successfully then it's extremely difficult to get a pass.

I'm taking GCSE Spanish as an after school class alongside my A levels - it's a lovely language to listen to! I'm just struggling to remember all the vocabulary! :frown:

General Studies don't count. It is not accepted in any offers you recieve from universities. I mean the more prestigious and elite universities do not include it as part of the offer, however in borderline cases they do take it into account.

If you have missed explanations in psych then it is hard to talk about them, Explaining abnormality in reference to psychodynamic model would be hard if you had not studied the models.

Maths is hard, but just because something isn't academic doesn't mean it isn't hard.

hmm Sheffield? Is this for Geography? BA or BSc is it (Hons), do they go into clearing every year to fill the remaining places?

BA Geography. I don't think they go into clearing, no. Their offer is lower than 4 of the other unis i've applied to, at BBB. That includes GS!

At Sheffield you can specialise in human geography from the outset basically, but at others i've applied for you do a mixture of physical and human in the first year - so some are half sciencey and half artsy (heh).
