    Re: A Deputy Speaker?
to get permissions changed isn't a problem. only takes a post in aam/pm to a super

this way the supers will know who is in control at any given point. I do like the idea of having a single account which is the speaker account.

more practical having a user account with the powers in my opinion.

though for a speaker/deputy speaker the same election process and acceptance by globals/supers is still required so won;'t make anything that more effecive.

I'm undecided about this. I think it would be useful to have somebody ready to step in without having to call an election every time.

But to have not only one, but two regular posters of the HoC (for it would have to be a regular poster) taken out of posting is damaging.

I would far prefer a provision to allow the Speaker to nominate a deputy speaker for a short amount of time (not exceeding two weeks, say?) without an election. This person can then, depending on the view of the mods and the speaker, either have mod powers or not.

well as i said before i stepped down, the constitution is there as a foundation of the future of the HOC, feel free to change bits here and there.

it might be an idea for a deputy speaker to be appointed instantly by a speaker should they need to in a time they have to be offline without any real notice.

I think there should be a constitutional back up on the empty account (if that idea is carried) so that the leaders of the parties can elect a DS. If real life does take over for the Speaker of the day, the last thin they really want or will be able to do is to report on here....So perphaps a rule of 5 days inativity = DS activation?

The bot idea I think is the best. It means that a regular poster is only compromised if and when Alasdair is away and there won't be a kerfuffle about privileges.

Regarding the bot - I suspect the Mods would not be massively happy with the idea of having a bot with permissions floating about that multiple people have access to.

Not even if the password was changed after each incident with only the global mods having permission to change it?

Well, sure, but it strikes me as being a bit pointless when we might as well just allow the Speaker to appoint an interim deputy Speaker if he's going to be away. To be fair, I had no internet access from Thursday evening until Monday morning, and the world didn't fall apart...
