Hi all
I'm doing further maths right...and I been prioritising my time with fp2 which is on thurs - and I actually haven't done anything for numerical methods apart from the coursework. It looks easy but can I ask you all... do you think it's easy in comparison to say... M2...FP2 or anything?

Or are there any other people in the same position as me? who haven't actually started work on nm cos of fp2 being such an annoyance

I mean I can switch it to normal maths a level if i go bad on it - cos FP2 and M2 stick with further no matter what

I'll give you a quick response. I'm doing MEI FP2 this Thursday 15 May 08.

MEI NM, in comparison to MEI FP2, is easy (once you know your formulae) and simple (once you understand how the formulae works). I did NM last year as part of my AS Further Maths, and was okay as it was my last exam, and I had enough time to revise for it.

For yourself, you may not be in the situation I was with plenty of time, and so I suggest that after the FP2 exam, spend about 1 day a week on the module, covering parts that you are weak at first, and then a week before the exam, make sure you have done the past papers. Good luck.

It's pretty difficult to compare the 2 tbh. FP2 is ok as the questions - or the impression i have been given thus far as i am also taking it on Thursday - are generally predictable in content and structure. NM has some pretty sketchy questions, but i think is fairly doable with fairly little content in comparison to FP2. It seems to be a module on how competent you are with a calculator.

look, we had 2 lessons for futher maths a week from sep to jan on NM and i missed half of them because i was also doing critical thinking and i got 100/100. i went to 1 further maths revision day (see if there is one around in your area) and just start reading and practising. fp2 is a lot harder. i only managed 84 cos i was self taught and rushed.

thanks so much everyone for your responses! Yeah I've just been revising this minute for FP2 and I know what you mean by the structure being predictable. NM sounds ok - I'll be starting it on thurs after fp2!
