I did for a while, and occasionally, when I hear of my friends enjoying it there are a couple of pangs. But one gets over it

Well that's me then, but my tittishness has served me well so far.

I didn't get in and I felt bummed out for about 10 minutes. Thankfully I never had any expectations put upon me to get in.

No, I saw myself as a failure at the time. I failed to get in, but as I said, I got over it. *2 :p:

I don't think I'd feel like a failure, but I would feel pretty disappointed. This is still a distinct possibility for me. :p:

    I didn't; I don't.

I did feel annoyed at having failed that specific challenge. But a failure as a person? Hell no. I'm exactly the same person now as I was before I even applied, it effectively changes nothing...make sense?

Re: Would you feel like a failure if you didn't get into OxBridge?
I would have done, had I failed, yes. Because, well, by definition failing something (in this case an application) makes one a failure...

But less pedantically: although I hadn't thought much of my chances before interview (deciding to even apply to Cambridge was a last-minute sort of thing, really, not a long-term goal), afterwards, I did feel more confident. And I was really fairly unsure about my second-choice, Durham, having not liked it all that much on an open-day (to those saying: 'why on earth make it a backup, then?', that's beyond this post) so I would have felt pretty bad if I hadn't gotten the offer, or if I had missed it at exam-time. But probably not for long, assuming Durham had worked out OK.

I think I'll be disappointed if I don't get in, but I have little expectations of actually getting in anyway, so I certainly wouldn't see myself as a failure.

Ive never even considered them. I can only imagine there full of stuck up snobs, who think there really brainy. I bet everything is so competitive there.

    Yes, pretty much.

who think there they're really brainy
Yes...because, not to put to fine a point on it, they mostly are. Not, of course, that they're the only ones, though.

    Some, yes. But not all.

What a horrible thing to say. We're people too you know - you can't just make some ignorant blanket statement about thousands of people like that. I can't think what we've ever done to make you want to hurt us over the internet, but really, try to resist.

    Besides, you're completely wrong.
