Don't you sort of think people should make their own CVs .... I sometimes can't help thinking it isn't right helping with Personal Statements - might aswell call them TSR statements.
Not at all, PS helpers shouldn't be writing statements for people who post them, only making suggestions, pointing out errors and making sure the person writing it is touching all the right bases.

Precisely.
As for CV's, your own counter argument speaks for itself, Alasdair. In addition I can't see there being the kind of demand there is for Personal Statements anyway.

Well allow me to give more detail - I did a PS a while back and I got the impression the person didn't really know what law was like - she made some unfounded statements - which would come across as "hmmm" so I 'cleaned' it up - and in doing so gave her a better chance whereas I feel someone else ought to have go that.
To put it bluntly - I feel she doesn't deserve a place now.
Yeah, I concur that this would be a bad idea. There's already a thread for it, and it doesn't have to be as private as PS Help in that there's not really a problem with plagiarism. Also we just don't have enough members with the experience to help effectively.
In response to Lord Hysteria, it is something that we're careful about and the more practice you get with helping the more able you'll find yourself to deal with making applicants think for themselves. If in doubt, have a look at my guidelines thread or ask in the discussion forum and we can offer advice on how to try to do this.
The thread is a worse idea. No chance I would post my CV up there for anyone to see. Typical TSR in this thread though, someone comes up with an idea and it's immediately shot down as a bad one. Try building on it instead, there's potential there to help people who have newly graduated. Kinda the type of thing that this site is exactly for.

A CV is a different kettle of fish. Firstly, few if any of us are in a position to claim knowledge of how to write a good CV, we only have our own to go by and there's much more scope for variety. A CV should be tailored very specifically with the job in mind, let alone tailoring it to an individual.

You missed my point. Basically I was saying that instead of immediately shooting down ideas by saying "few if any of us are in a position to claim knowledge of how to write a good CV" a better reply would have been "you would need to find member who are "in a position to claim knowledge..."

but he/she presumably they finished their degree and is working ?
Who actually has the time to go through CVs

how is that better? That's saying the same thing but wrapped up in niceties to disguise the fact you're saying it. It doesn't take away from the truth in what I said. Perhaps a forum should exist with people brought in externally as I think was talked about way back when, but we in the PS helper forum are not generally qualified to comment, which was the idea suggested in the OP.

It's the difference between shooting any idea that comes forward out the ground, or giving constructive advice on how it could be implemented.
F1 fanatic & SillyFencer, you are both arguning on how to give evidence and not the matter itself.
In law, it is law of evidence and law of substance.
As Lord Hysteria, it is my legal duty to turn this thread back onto course.
huh? I have not made a post in this thread (other than this one) which has not been a direct answer to the question of whether or not this scheme is feasible.
i don't think its a terrible idea, especially for those applying to do part time jobs where all it really takes is for someone to check over spelling and tell them to delete the section where they list their skills as hardworking, fun, etc etc. There are loads in part time employment sub that would definitly benefit. I looked at my sister's CV last night (age 16) and it was disgraceful, a complete mess, so although maybe people here are envisaging those going into IB or something posting onhere their CVs, there's a whole spectrum of jobs and skillspossesed bypeople on this forum that would be relevant for a CV section.
