Default differentiation

it would be great if some one could help me out here!

i have to differentiate an equation involving a fraction. So i alrteady know you have to simplify it. the fraction is

-5/x^4

does that simplify to -5x^-4 or +5x^-4?

my ad maths gcse is tomorrow, and its suffice to say im a little bit behind with revision.......

thanks in advance

No it isn't. You need to minus 1 from the power not add 1.
