Lightbulb Help with deciding on languages to study

The time is approaching to begin applying to study at university. Can any current students tell me how they managed to decide which languages to study at university?
I particularly need help with which ab-initio language to pick, as I feel indecisive about them. I have created a shortlist, but it's not that short:
Czech
Danish
Dutch
Finnish
Modern Greek
Modern Hebrew
Swedish
So is there anybody out there studying one of the above languages, who is willing to give me any advice, as well as some of the pros and cons of the language?
Thanks in advance.

I'd say it mainly depends on what do you want to do with your language later ! I chose two "rare" languages but which are widely spoken (Russian and Arabic) because I want to work as an interpreter or in foreign affairs and these are kind of useful languages imo.

Finnish/Danish/Swedish are spoken in countries that widely speak English as well, though it can be really useful if you wanna live here or work here or in a firm dealing with these countries. I don't know much about Czech/Dutch/Modern Greek, but Dutch is (imo) like a mix of German and English, Modern Greek has a funny alphabet (I learnt Ancient Greek and loved the whole part about mythology, though I don't know if you'll have it, but probably), and I think Czech will gain importance because it's now a European country and it'll develop soon I think. Modern Hebrew can be interesting if you want to read something like Jew studies, or just if you're interested in International relations and especially about Israël. Just try to get info about things like how difficult it is for English people, the way it works, where and how much it is spoken, etc.

Hope it helped a bit !

Thanks it helped a bit, and yes Greek does have a different alphabet but it's not that bad. I learnt a bit of Greek before I went on holiday once, and I can still read Greek even if I'm not sure of what the word actually means in English.

Alphabets are not that hard to learn (erm, not talking about Japanese, Chinese or this kind of alphabet ), but the thing that would interest the most about Modern Greek is civilisation, lol, so I'd better study Ancient Greek.

Choose a language spoken in a country that you can see yourself living in or spending time in, if you find out that you dislike the natives of whatever country you are going to be studying in then you won't be having much fun.
