Re: Help with deciding on languages to study
I'd say it mainly depends on what do you want to do with your language later ! I chose two "rare" languages but which are widely spoken (Russian and Arabic) because I want to work as an interpreter or in foreign affairs and these are kind of useful languages imo.
Finnish/Danish/Swedish are spoken in countries that widely speak English as well, though it can be really useful if you wanna live here or work here or in a firm dealing with these countries. I don't know much about Czech/Dutch/Modern Greek, but Dutch is (imo) like a mix of German and English, Modern Greek has a funny alphabet (I learnt Ancient Greek and loved the whole part about mythology, though I don't know if you'll have it, but probably), and I think Czech will gain importance because it's now a European country and it'll develop soon I think. Modern Hebrew can be interesting if you want to read something like Jew studies, or just if you're interested in International relations and especially about Israël. Just try to get info about things like how difficult it is for English people, the way it works, where and how much it is spoken, etc.
Hope it helped a bit !
