But just don't go to lessons. Go the the exams. Some uni's accept it even some quite good ones.
Aslong as you can form an argument, it's another A level.
My school does a register thing where they check to see if you have been in every lesson and you have to sign in the morning and afternoon even if you don't have any lessons.
Yes, my school is absolute psycho for attendance. We have to sign in using fingerprint scans...
But i just don't go. I went to the first lesson, then told my friend to tell the teacher i'd moved groups and it took them a year to even realise i wasn't in any group. And then after that i just told them i'm not going and they accepted it lol.

Tell me about it. I'm counting down the days until i leave!
We used to use an ID card system but obviously people could just use your card to sign in for you while your not there, so they thought that they would install bloody finger prints. Let alone half the CCTV cameras down our corridors!
There are some universities that accept it... Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield for example, and these are good unis (without being patronising, I'm sure you know that they are lol). There are more too. Maybe not every single course at these unis accept it but some courses at do, and it can come in useful for some people.
It's your school's decision to make it compulsory... it wasn't for us but we were encouraged to do it. I said I'd do the exams but didn't go to the lessons and got full marks in them all! (UMS) Although it didn't matter what I got in it, it's still an extra thing to have...

I don't think its worth giving people ammunition to say how A' levels are getting easier. Really pisses me off (and other people I know doing academic subjects) to hear from someone that A' levels are easier because of something they read in the newspaper.

How did we get on to people saying how A levels are getting easier from my post? How have I given people 'ammunition'?
The only reason I said, "Although it didn't matter what I got in it, it's still an extra thing to have...", as you quoted, was because I personally couldn't care less about what I got, I had more important subjects to be thinking about. And not everyone does well in it by the way, the exam board can't give everyone As/Bs
Yes, I know what you mean when people say A levels are getting easier because I know how much work I put into to getting top grades (in academic subjects too). Don't know whether you were actually getting at me personally or if it was just a case that you were really incensed at that moment by people saying A levels are easier... just thought I'd clarify what I meant

Whoops, no it wasn't a personal attack. Sorry if I came across like that

**** it's like an American school or something, soon you'll have metal detector gates and everything... what kind of school is it? Grammar, comprehensive? We never had anything like that at my school, people just signed in and were generally trusted to come in on time, and they did for the most part...

Just a normal state school up it's own arse :P. Though it's better than most grammars/comprehensives in results. So can't blame them for that. But personally i hate it
I sucked so badly in my General Studies exams today. I'm not all that bothered about it other than the fact people who do subjects like Sociology are at an advantage and will do better than, regardless of their actual intelligence.

We have fingerprint scans too!
And if you don't go to General studies they stop your EMA for that week (doesn't affect most people but still seems pretty harsh)
Don't mind the scans much though its a pain to actually have to do something instead of just answer the register
and I'm trying to get my further maths teacher to take us out of our general studies lessons to do maths because we 'need' (read as 'want') to do maths instead of general studies (Y) lol
I don't know why everyone hates General Studies!!! My school doesn't offer General Studies so I PAID to do it as a Private Candidate. I do the AQA (B) Spec but only for AS. I done approx 3 days of revision and got 100/100 = A on Unit 3. Am going to take Unit 1 & 2 in Jan '09.
Some Uni's do accept it and the ones that say exclude General Studies sometimes accept it if you missed the entry requirements by a little e.g. say a uni said you need a BBB at A Level and a Pass at AS to get in, and you get a BBC and an A in general studies, then they may let you in. Also, at the end of the day its another A/AS Level. It also shows that you can use your critical thinking skills and understand how society works etc which employers like. Also, its harder than people think, its a combi of Law, Sociology, GCSE Math & Science, Citizenship, RE, Philosophy & History. If you go on AQA and look at the A-C pass rates only 40% of 30,000 get a A-C grade (with AQA B) and about 48% get A-C with AQA A.
I don't mind general studies as it's just an excuse to sit around and chat about the news in my school really, and for half of the year I have a teacher who can't be bothered planning lessons so we just get to go shopping all morning . It needs more respect from the teachers imho - at GCSE we were forced to do subjects, but because the teachers actually knew the course and tried to teach you it, nobody minded too much. When you are forced to go to a lesson where the teacher doesn't even know what to teach let alone actually teaching you it, nobody is going to want to do it!
