Does anybody know what the situation is with accepting general studies as an A Level at southampton? Yes i know everybody thinks that is useless ect. ect. but we all had to take it at my college and i was just wondering if it would have any influence, say if i didnt make my other grades? Ta!

No, very few uni's accept it, it's worth about 20 UCAS points to my knowledge.

I thought it was worth the same as any other a level points wise

OP, your offer will state if it excludes general studies.

yer it is worth the same points, but my offer on ucas has two offers...one if i do three a levels and one if i do 4? they dont state subjects though!

if it doesn't say "excluding general studies" then GS can count towards your offer (either the 3 A levels one or the 4 A levels one).

generally it's worth taking, especially if you think you can get a half decent grade - if you miss your offer but get a decent GS grade then pretty much all unis will take that into account when deciding whether to accept you with lower grades.

Oh thats good to hear, thanks for the info. I had to take it at my college, i got an A anyway so hopefully it will count towards something!

My offer is BBBB. It has to be made with General Studies. The MFL admissions tutor said Soton has a policy of including GS in its offers.
