I'm surprised that 58/75 was the boundary for 80UMS in Jan 2008..while it was 62/75 in Jan 2005..clearly the former was a harder/more ambiguous paper..

Question: Has anyone actually revised dot-products in M1?

Has anyone known it to come up in past papers? Or is it a safe bet to leave it alone... or d'ya think they'll spring it on us unawares O_o

The only time I've ever come across a dot product is in C4. I can't imagine it coming up in M1. Is it in any textbooks?

Dot products? As in C4 dot product rule?

I'm sure I saw it in my M1 textbook at some point.

Though it is quite an old textbook, they've probably taken it off the syllabus by now.

For those of you that are interested:
    Spoiler:
    Show
    The dot product of two vectors \mathbf{A} \, , \,\begin{pmatrix} p \\ q \end{pmatrix} and \mathbf{B} \, , \,\begin{pmatrix} r \\ s \end{pmatrix} is:

     \mathbf{A} \bullet \mathbf{B} = \begin{pmatrix} p \\ q \end{pmatrix} \bullet \begin{pmatrix} r \\ s \end{pmatrix} = pr + qs, or

     |\mathbf{A}||\mathbf{B}| \cos \theta , where \theta is the angle between the two vectors.

But I believe the chance of your having to use it to be ~0.

    Ah, yes.
    It's a 2000 spec text book.

    No worries, false alarm :P

    I just did Jan 03, question 5...

I ended up going through C3 trigonometry to get there O_o

I got 11.3 as my answer, though. The markscheme cited "11.0". Is this just a case of Edexcel being their inaccurate selves?

I MUST have been correct... I didn't do that much to be wrong >_<

Doubt it. You've probably gone wrong somewhere Steve. Edexcel hardly ever make mistakes on MS's but make **** loads on the papers.

Yeah but I've noticed M1 markschemes tend to be laden with "AWRT", and often penalise for being *too* accurate with answers.

It could be certainly viable that I was correct...

They've started doing cats now. We have to distinguish between varieties of dogs next.

Pick the 4 letters with Labradors in them
