I think they're asking for the force required to make one string horizontal and the other slack... Very stupidly worded question though.

Let the horizontal force be X or whatever. Then you need to find X such that it makes one of the strings become horizontal and parallel with the wall.

I've never seen any question that's remotely similar to part b of that before... but surely you can get round the question by saying that the least horizontal force is 0, if you apply a vertical force (i.e. I don't really know what to do, and I'm doing Music revision!)

yeah the first part's 7.84N, but have no idea at all about the 2nd part, even after looking at the mark scheme
