Can anyone tell me how to do part b please?
4. Re: M1 - Edexcel, 21st May - ULTIMATE THREAD
anyone?
5. Re: M1 - Edexcel, 21st May - ULTIMATE THREAD
hang on - i'm back now
6. Re: M1 - Edexcel, 21st May - ULTIMATE THREAD
I think they're asking for the force required to make one string horizontal and the other slack... Very stupidly worded question though.
7. Re: M1 - Edexcel, 21st May - ULTIMATE THREAD
i still don't know how to even begin
I'm not naturally good at mechanics unless I've done a similar question before
8. Re: M1 - Edexcel, 21st May - ULTIMATE THREAD
Let the horizontal force be X or whatever. Then you need to find X such that it makes one of the strings become horizontal and parallel with the wall.
9. Re: M1 - Edexcel, 21st May - ULTIMATE THREAD
Ahh k, its time to hang my head in shame and admit...I can't do it .
10. Re: M1 - Edexcel, 21st May - ULTIMATE THREAD
I've never seen any question that's remotely similar to part b of that before... but surely you can get round the question by saying that the least horizontal force is 0, if you apply a vertical force (i.e. I don't really know what to do, and I'm doing Music revision!)
11. Re: M1 - Edexcel, 21st May - ULTIMATE THREAD
Can any of you smart mathematicians work it out for me please?
i hatee it when I leave a problem unsolved.
12. Re: M1 - Edexcel, 21st May - ULTIMATE THREAD
I think first part is 15.7 N, no? .. Stupid second question tbh..

EDIT: Forgot to divide by 2, 7.84 N (3.s.f) ?

yeah the first part's 7.84N, but have no idea at all about the 2nd part, even after looking at the mark scheme
14. Re: M1 - Edexcel, 21st May - ULTIMATE THREAD
What does the mark scheme say? We might be able to work backwards...

If only we could do that in the real exam :P..

Tbh if you do physics M1 is easy...
I beg to differ! I got a C in M1 last year and a good A in Phyisics AS. Hmmm...

What does the mark scheme say? We might be able to work backwards...
"F=Tcos 30, 0.8g=Tsin30 F=0.8√3=13.6N "
thats exactly what it says. I have no idea how to interpret that LOL.
Sorry for the late reply, was doing an exam paper.
18. Re: M1 - Edexcel, 21st May - ULTIMATE THREAD
I have absolutely no idea. I don't even understand the question to be honest.

Luckily we don't have to know that kind of thing =P

My question...well, more of a confirmation.

Did I do this right?

It's one of those ambiguities again as the markscheme says "520" or "519", so I'm not entirely sure how to interpret that.

(EDIT: THIS IS THE CORRECT ANSWER)

Find the deceleration and initial speed of the particle and show that its final velocity = 0 when s = 1.4
