    I think they're asking for the force required to make one string horizontal and the other slack... Very stupidly worded question though.

    i still don't know how to even begin
    I'm not naturally good at mechanics unless I've done a similar question before

    Let the horizontal force be X or whatever. Then you need to find X such that it makes one of the strings become horizontal and parallel with the wall.

    I've never seen any question that's remotely similar to part b of that before... but surely you can get round the question by saying that the least horizontal force is 0, if you apply a vertical force :p: (i.e. I don't really know what to do, and I'm doing Music revision!)

    I think first part is 15.7 N, no? .. Stupid second question tbh..

    EDIT: Forgot to divide by 2, 7.84 N (3.s.f) ?

    yeah the first part's 7.84N, but have no idea at all about the 2nd part, even after looking at the mark scheme

    What does the mark scheme say? We might be able to work backwards...

    What does the mark scheme say? We might be able to work backwards...
    "F=Tcos 30, 0.8g=Tsin30 F=0.8√3=13.6N "
    thats exactly what it says. I have no idea how to interpret that LOL.
    Sorry for the late reply, was doing an exam paper.

    I have absolutely no idea. I don't even understand the question to be honest.

    Luckily we don't have to know that kind of thing =P

    My question...well, more of a confirmation.

    Did I do this right?

    It's one of those ambiguities again as the markscheme says "520" or "519", so I'm not entirely sure how to interpret that.

    (EDIT: THIS IS THE CORRECT ANSWER)

    Find the deceleration and initial speed of the particle and show that its final velocity = 0 when s = 1.4
