Question Black Holes and Supernovae

I am currently revising AS Edexcel Unit 3 Topic A- Astrophysics
I am looking at the Specification and it states that:

A Type II Supernovae is the rapid implosion of more than eight solar masses.
Blackholes- core remnants greater than about 2.5 solar masses.

I am unsure as to whether I am reading this correctly but I am confused that the mass to make a Supernovae is greater than that of a Black Hole, although I understand that the supernovae mentioned is one type. I thought that a supernovae was necessary for a black hole to be formed.

Could someone clarify this for me please?

Thanks.

Erm I haven't done astrophysics so shouldn't really be answering this...

Does it not mean that you need 8 solar masses to get a supernovae, which leaves a core behind - if this core is greater than about 2.5 solar masses then it can form a black hole?

In a supernova, most of the mass is blown away. If too much blows away you cant get a black hole core.
