Chinese Earthquake Response

South Korea would like to bring to the attention of the MUN the plight of the predicted 4.8 million people made homeless by the 8.0 magnitude earthquake that stuck Sichuan province on the 12th May (2008).

Indeed, South Korea has offered China $4 million in order to help the recovery from the earthquake and hopes this response will be echoed in order to assist China and her people through this difficult time.

At a difficult time, Spain would like to commend the response of the Chinese government to the earthquake in Sichuan province.
Thousands of lives have been saved by the rapid deployment of troops and emergency aid workers into the area.

Spain also passes its condolences to the relatives of the some 40,000 victims of one of the worst natural disasters to hit China in recent history.

The process of redevelopment is one that the Chinese government is currently putting into action now.

The Republic of South Africa was shocked and concerned at the natural disaster in China, and offers its condolences at this difficult time.

The Republic of South Africa is impressed with the efforts of the Chinese Government following the disaster, and sees its work as an example of best practice for the rest of the region.

Argentina concurs with its fellow delegates on commending the Chinese government's excellent response to the natural disaster that has affected the country terribly in the last fortnight.

Argentina also wishes to express its deepest sympathies by those affected by this disaster and would like to take the oppurtunity to suggest that the Burmese Government would be wish to follow the exemplary model provided by China in how to deal with a natural disaster.

The UNEP would also like to offer condolences to the Chinese people and hopes that in this time other countries offer help and support to this country, as it did in other catastrophic events such as 9/11, and perhapse even more so as this earthquake was done my nature rather than a group of people
