basikly i want to study law at uni but i am really confused to what AS level subjects i want/need to take.
At first i chose Economics, English Lit, German and maths. However i have just taken my maths GCSEs and i know i will not get an A* and therefore i will struggle with it next year.. and i do not enjoy maths that much anyway.
I don't know whether to change maths to history?
What subjects has anyone who studies at university taken or will take?
History would certainly be considered complementary to a Law applicant, which is quite necessary, as Law is so competitive. English Lit and German are also impressive to have on your resume. And both Maths and Economics are good subjects. So I mean really, it doesn't matter. You could try doing all five at the start of year twelve, and then dropping either Maths or History (or any other) if you find it too gruelling.
to be honest your subjects look fine, although history's very useful for law. are you particularly strong in history by the way? on the other hand, if you can get a very good grade for maths, it will show that you're flexible and have lots of skills ranging from logical thinking to intellectual ability (important for law, i presume).
I don't think that there are any subjects required for Law at University, but obviously they like you to be good at english and well-rounded.
That said, I would have thought maths would be fine, as it shows you have a logical side that can be applied to any situation (indeed any science subject would also show that, if you really hated maths).
Take subjects that you enjoy, and are going to do well in. Ask advice from your teachers, but English Literature, History, Economics and a MFL should leave you in very good standing. All are demanding subjects, and if you get top grades in all of them, should be favourable with the admissions department.
I've also heard that work experience/shadowing is important for law - use any contacts that you or your school has to get it - it should show your dedication to the subject. Also make sure you start reading the (quality) newspapers, which should widen your knowledge of the system. At the end of the day you have until September (ish) 09 to be able to prove that you are a student that they really, really want! Start working for it now if you know what you want! It'll be here sooner than you know it!
If you don't like Maths don't do it!! It's really difficult especially, if like me, you have no motivation to do it! You don't need it to get onto a LAw course, so if you feel that you won't be able to enjoy maths and work really hard at it, I'd say pick History instead.
Dude, I think most people would agree Maths is a solid subject, there isn't anything pussy about it. I got a B in maths for GCSE, and I am predicted an A. If you enjoy it and show the subject a bit of respect in terms of work you should be fine.
Hi...I'm currently taking History, English Lit, German (and French) AS and I would honestly advise you to pick history over maths. I know someone desperate to do law who's taking history, maths, spanish and lit, and absolutely HATES maths. I know I would if I took it. The thing is with history is that however hard it is, and however much reading and essays you have to do for it, it is the most rewarding subject I do. I know in my history class we have a whale of a time debating things both relevant and irrelevant to the course, but intelligent debates nonetheless. In maths you don't get that, there is only one right answer, whereas in history you can never be wrong as such, you just have to back up your arguments etc. Like people have said above, history is brilliant for a potential Law applicant (just don't take Law A level ) and if you really want to do law, I would advise you to take history. I assume you are interested in debate etc (if you want to be a lawyer?) I know this is a bit off topic, but have you heard of MUN?

Please help! x
well I think that u should do those subjects that u enjoy the most, Law does not have any subject barriers wen u enter uni.
but if possible I feel business and Economics should help for they both are related to legislations and legal barriers
However now i am re-thinking because i have no interest in maths and i was only taking economics to use as a back up with maths and therefore i do not need it anymore..
So right now my definate subjects are English Lit and German. Now i am thinking to do history and a science- chemistry or biology?..
Which one do you think? Am i making the right decision?.. Sorry about all the questions..x
