Default Covering Letter

i'm kinda confused about what u exactly put in acovering letter
i wanna apply for a retail job
the ad in the paper says 'send ur covering letter + cv to X'

what does a covering letter normally consist of?

i can't think of anything, apart from 'please find cv attached'????

Just keep it brief and to the point: "Dear so and so, I am interested in applying for the position as whatever at your store. I am available to work whatever hours and have attached a CV for your consideration. I look forward to your response,". If you've had previous retail experience, also drop in a brief sentence about that

The important thing is not to waffle - it's just a way of introducing your CV and letting them know the hours you are available to work really.

CV is generally who you are, cover letter is job specific basically. so like what specific skills or parts of your CV (refer to it) will be beneficial for the job your applying to.
